The titles do exist in-game. Your mileage in getting the rulers of independent city-states to recognize your peerage may vary.

... I was thinking more along the lines of "How do you know he's a king?" "...He hasn't got **** all over him."

So therefore we need to see if Lord British hasn't got... well you get the idea..

    Fair enough.

I wasn't angling to get the NPC's to recognize me as a Baron. I was hoping that I could put Lord British and Lord Darkstarr's titles on the same level as anyone else using "Lord". I plan to do just that unless told otherwise.

I don't see the issue, but we do have short memories or didn't bother to search. Because Lum posted pretty much the exact same thing back in December, in a thread that most of us were in and posted in as well:

Also, noticed you dropped your title from your forum name. That's funny. :)

Now that Lum has reiterated what he said previously, I am interested in knowing more about this:

I'm guessing if there's a mechanic for NPCs that favor you to address you as which...your chosen title in-game or your actual account title or simply what you tell them?

And, is that mechanic already in-game?

There's nothing in that December post about LB being a king or not being a king. That's not "pretty much the exact same thing".

We don't have the mechanic yet in-game to reflect titles granted to NPC knowledge bases, but it's on the to-do list. Once done it can be very easily tuned by NPC and by actions taken.

I think he fixed it... but it doesn't matter.. I think this thread is too long and it's all about why Lord British should not be a King or referred to as one, since he is perceived as a 'Lord' by some.. but it's really just his username.. :) I understand it fits somewhere in the lore of the game (or past games I should say, which this game has been stated as NOT a sequel to any Ultima).. but it's also just his name he chose when he signed up to play Shroud :D

The NPC character in discussion is NOT the player avatar for Richard himself. It is a decent lore question to be answered, and I appreciate that Lum provided the extra information.

    The better version....

Talk about feeling OLD! Over 25 years since this song was released in 1991. This is what REAL music sounds like. No Autotune BS and real instruments being played.

Lord British was still Lord British in 1991.

I have done an exhaustive search of Burke's Peerage and have found NOTHING on this Lord British character...

Now as we all know, if you're not in Burkes, you're not nobility! :p;)

So I am indeed a knight with no king ? :p

Man that took a long time !

Now I can start writing my backstory... 2 years later...

Technically if he's the first outlander, then he's the de-facto king, because of his experience and "great knowledge of the land".

Hmm by the way... whats a paladin ? :D

I'm not confused about the titles in the game, I know they're honorific. But Lord British and Lord Darkstarr surly don't mean something different than Lord Drocis would. That just does't make any sense to me, from a roleplaying standpoint.

So what I'm saying is that either all the titles are honorific or none of them are.
