I trust many of you have played Final Fantasy. The overworld in this game reminds me of the map found in the Final Fantasy games.

Anyone who has played FFVII will remember the Weapons--which were these giant biological mech thingies that you didn't have to kill to beat the game.

Regardless, the Weapons would appear on the map in FFVII and would sometimes move around.

My suggestion is why not have bosses or even special events show up on the overworld? It would work like this. You're exploring the overworld or journeying to a certain destination when suddenly you spot this giant dragon land on the ground and start walking around. Once you walk up to it you enter a scene where you're fighting the dragon. Other people exploring the overworld at the time will see the dragon and can enter the scene to help you.

Visible events on the overland map are not far away. Been trying to get them in for a while now, but other priorites.

Final Fantasy was inspired by Ultima I, II, III, IV. Or to say it was not inspired would be incorrect. There were few games back in the day. Ultima games were of the few games that pioneered overland maps in gaming. Giant bosses visible from the overland map could be cool if done right. Bosses that take many players, it's good to have some sort of warning mechanism that other players can use to see and not miss out.

I still remember the epic battle against Emerald...

Anyway, one of the most often delayed features, release-on-release, are roving encounters (REs); you can physically see them on the overland map, and either avoid, or actively engage them. Basically an evolution of the actual random scenes you stumble upon in Perennial Coast and Hidden Vale nowadays.

And it has front arms besides wings. So clearly a true dragon and not a wyvern! ;)

(No, I won't stop beating the dead wyvern, sorry!)

HAHAH I was going to say the same thing when I saw that picture! Maybe the four legged variety will still make an appearance?
