Well, to be fair the robes are red, but I think that is kind of the intent, but done in a reasonably logical in-universe way. It does make sense that there would arise a purist/nativist group when an invasion of outsiders occurs. In no way does it make it "right", but it does add to the moral dilemma spectrum provided by the game. While the visual cues are there, since it is not being done on a real-life racial basis, I think it will be fine. I hope the encounters are fun and that Portalarium is not forced to back off from them.

To the non-US players, the KKK is/was (mostly was as they are so fringe now to be laughed at more than feared) a white supremacist group in the late 1800s/early 1900s in the US. I'll leave it at that and let you do your own research from there.

The hood and attire is not unique to the KKK, it was just the first thing I thought of when I read about them and saw the picture. So I thought I would be funny.

The connection is clear enough though when you read who they are. I had the same reaction in reading the update. Still not a bad thing because they are not exactly being shown as being A Good Thing™. Also to be fair, there is quite a lot of racial animosity already present in the storyline of the game, although it can be argued it's not along the same lines as real life racism (Fantastic Racism being the Trope).

 

KKK or otherwise, they all look like dorks.

 

But the real question is... will they take my baby away?

 

If I cast fire spells on them, will the pointy hats light up like candles?

 

These are clearly not members of the KKK.
The robes are a totally different color and I don't think "outlander" counts a race for them to hate.
