Request: Report Button for immersion breaking vendor names

If you cant beat em join em. If we want names in game to fit with the spirit of the game then vendors need to follow the same rules. They need appropriate in gane names not spamming immersion breaking sales pitches.

 

I'd like to report Guard Edward at Owl's Head, the Sultan of Southmarsh and heir to the throne of Brittany for being a rotten little fibber.

I find them offensive and we cant have anyone offended now can we?

 

The problem with this is that they would remove Mr. Prestige Worldwide LTD of Brittany. I would no longer have a reliable, player operated, farming tool source. I'm sure that if quality boats and quart jars were available we could find them at Prestige's for an excellent price.

 

It really is worldwide! Same vendor sells farming implements in Aerie!

 

Vendor names should work just like NPC names. You don't know them until you interact with the vendor. They have a profession title, whether its "Vendor" or "Blacksmith Vendor" or whatever, and that's what shows, then when you talk to them, you get a combination of their name and title, like with an NPC.

Personally, I think it would be cool for them to take it a step further and have you hire vendors from a hiring pool of generated vendors, but I don't think that will happen.

 

I think they need to get rid of the immersion breaking GUI, skill trees, and chat. Regular people don't have a constant HUD in real life, and can't select from a handy list what skills they like! And every time I try to chat with someone that's not within 10 feet, I should have to pull out a bullhorn and shout into it! Additionally, things respawn way too quickly...once a tree is cut down it should be several years before a new one can be cut!

That being said, if you want to get rid of goofy names on vendors, give the ability to script the vendors to talk to passers-by, and don't let people hide it on the screen (unless they're wearing ear-muffs). "Cheapest armor in town! Don't go into the woods without it! Joe's Armor down the street is shoddy and overpriced! Mine's the real deal!"

Totally down with this. It's common on UO freeshards for vendors to be forced to have names that don't break immersion, and really this is a 3d platform so the necessity is even greater IMO, as 2d itself doesn't promote realism as much.

What makes this even more possible is that players can advertise the types of wares and vendor location very easily on the forums here, as I have done by linking my vendor to my signature, which you can click now if you'd like.

No I disagree with this. There is only so much restrictions you can do to a Richard Garriott game. Then we become like every other game and not like a Richard Garriott game. So many of us came from roots of UO and there was so much creativity allowed there. We happen to get mostly already built homes instead of people building what they want, so we do have very beautiful homes. If a sign bothers you, I say hmmm. Remember where we are and just enjoy yourself. Well my 2 cents that is.

I like vendor names telling me what is on them...I look at all vendors anyways...but I especially like it if the name says "ore" and there is ore on the vendor.

 

Breaking immersion's bad...but I've got a handy link outside the game you can use to see my vendor.

 

I caught that....and having to look outside the game to find things is a recurring theme here.

vendors, maps, quest...there is a theme there.

I believe that player owned vendors simply shouldn't have names that are publicly displayed. (an alternative might be to have them all read Private Vendor)

Instead, they should have names that are only displayed in the chat window and NEVER overhead. There should also be a way for players that own the vendors to write up something about what they're selling (kind of like the signs have). So if you hover over them they show the writing but if you never hover over them they don't. I believe this would take care of all of the annoying use cases, and keep the player owned vendors back into the shadows just a step from where they are now (which is directly in your face). Also, making the names NOT display EVER would probably be a good thing for system usage and help performance in towns where there are a lot of these vendors.
