It'd hard to believe that this is even debatable, when, clearly, we're all married to SotA!

For you too. War drives supply and demand. In other games, raiding has been used in place of or next to PVP as far as driving an economy. As a crafter you need other people in the ecosystem that are using up goods and need replacements. So while you particularly do not PVP, you can indirectly benefit from PVP.

SotA was never advertised as a medieval simulation. The allure of these types of video and tabletop games is the warring aspect and territory control struggle, but in these virtual worlds the real magic is that you don't have to swing a weapon to participate in the fight. Maybe it is just me but when I sit down to play tabletop, I fight monsters and sometimes people. Never has wild sex broken out. Maybe I am just playing wrong.

It was advertised as a TRUE RPG, not one where your choices were to role play different types of killer but one where you had the freedom to role play whatever you wanted. If you wanted to be a crafter you could do that, if you wanted to be a fighter you could do that, if you wanted to write books or make art or put on plays or just play house and skip through the daisies

As far as I can remember it wasn't mentioned in the description of Ultima 6, Ultima 7 and Ultima 9 either and still it was a part of those games ;)

All Portalarium need to do is provide the necessary tools and the players can do the rest.

We already have wedding garments in the add-on store, and I'm sure later down the track there will be other similarly themed items.

In terms of gameplay I don't see a need for it to affect performance stats. Make it a convenience just like instruments or books. :)

As for sex, well it is always good to encourage openness and maturity about such topics, but at the same time it can easily be abused for nefarious reasons. I would commend Portalarium if they can find a way to do it tastefully as a celebration of intimacy rather than a gratuitous degrading portrayal. It truly is a virtuous thing to value intimacy over lust.

I apologize, I should have been more clear. Relationships are one thing. I will give you that and won't contest that. It is part of your character's virtual growth if you want it to be. I was referencing the sex acts on screen. Seeing the acts and having 50 Shades of SotA is completely unnecessary, in my opinion, based off of the actual focus of the game as stated by the developers. I don't watch porno and get upset I can't play video games...

I think I am also getting these two threads confused and need to stop, lol. Cheers all. Good debate.

I guess if they handled the sex portion of it like they did in the Amiga days in "Sinbad Throne Of The Falcon"
3:25 on slider :) would be ok , but still I would just stick to just allowing marriage lmao.

OooOr maybe the Devas can pull a surprise twist, close up shop abruptly and take flight to some remote country with all our financial contributions and end up sipping mojitos and eating endless wings..

 I've been suggesting this very thing all year! Here's a postcard I made up a few months ago for just this occasion.

+1 for relationships... but that is between two humans, not pixels on the screen. +1 for a marriage mechanic. I'll even give +1 for potential romantic quests with NPCs - this is part of story telling and can be found in many single player games. But, nope, still not seeing the need for adult-theme actions/animations. You'd have to make a skill tree and glyph system just for that, to make it remotely interesting... and then we're just talking about a whole different kind of game! :D

This could be done by allowing two players to enter the same bed together. There is no need to start creating animations and stuff. If they begin creating sex animations it opens a can of worms that will never end for them. Like Vendetta said, this would lead to an endless request for more content. Nobody is going to be satisfied watching these avatars performing sexual relations. They will need new content weekly. Portalarium isn't a porn company, they make games.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are saying war drives the economy. Funny, because maybe people reveal their political bent with this viewpoint.

    Not all
games have PvP. To suggest it's the only thing that would or could drive the SotA economy smacks a narrow view.

When development started on this game, no mention was made for lots of things. They ask for feedback, and players have the reasonable right to express what game features would interest them.

A reply to someone who brought up that topic. Why didn't you ask them? My comment, in which they quoted was on topic.

No no no. I meant players who have a primary focus on PVE and/or PVP tend to not spend the same time on crafting or supplying their efforts/wants. Some games make it easy to do both supply goods and also to use goods. Other games, hopefully like this one, require the two mentalities to rely on and support each other. One "supplies" and focuses on non-combat play while the other "uses" and focuses on combat. You can do any combination of the two but to be truly great at what you do requires focusing on one or the other.

I play Wurm Online on the PVE cluster. It is crafting heavy with no PVP focus. PVE is strictly you trying to survive. You might hunt for food, but you aren't raiding or holding large scale battles. As a result, the economy is pretty dead. It is there for sure, but other than making your gaming life easier, it has no drive. Nothing is really pushing you to buy and sell wares except for convenience. The only people who do, do so to save time.

In a well done economy, both non-combat and combat players rely on each other. Back in SWG, I had a friend who literally never fought one mob. He had a blast but his buyers were using his goods for combat in one way, shape, or form, even if it was to furnish their house during their downtime. If they were sitting there doing nothing but crafting like him, there would be too many goods and not enough demand, right?

All that said, I was simply trying to illustrate how PVP can tie into the economy of a game heavy with crafting and thus benefit the entirety of the game. Unless the steamy sex scenes require reagents, mats, or equipment, it just won't apply to the game in the same way. Therefore sex and pvp aren't really comparable.
