I guess it's a close representation of me in-game. I tend to be competitive and I really like PvP, which is where I think true skill lies at. Unfortunately, most games don't seem very balanced and, IMO, don't provide a fair or skill-based challenge, catering more to the grinding aspect of it.
Besides, I like exploring the world and lore, following quests and stuff. I'm not the kind of guy that looks for the "perfect" build, or checks guides online on which to base how I play the game; I try to discover things myself and find more fun in that than in winning (at least under such conditions). That's why I wouldn't be consider much of an achiever per se, I guess.

 

Is explorer just common among us, or is the test accurate?

 

Seriously. Was there any great mystery with this one?

Though many of the questions left me thinking "Um, neither?"

 

I think Explorer is the kind of mindset that better appreciates games like the Ultima series as a whole

 

Or even the MMO genre. If you were to paste that link into a forum for Counterstrike, you'd probably get most results coming back 90% Killer, 90% Achiever.

 

The big problem I have with the Bartle test is its dichotomous nature, which leaves people (like Lori) feeling like "um.. neither?" More answers would make for a more realistic test.

 

Actually, I believe most MMO players are achievers and socializers, with a good serving of killers when the MMO supports that play style; AFAIK Explorers aren't that common.

Also, I'm not sure most FPS players, or players of other PvP-only games, are killers. I believe the Killer archetype is more tied to non-consensual PvP than with consensual PvP - after all, the killer archetype is more about forcing other players to bend to the killer's will than about the PvP itself -, and PvP-only games, including FPS games, are consensual PvP. Heck, my killer score is nil and still I love PvP FPS games

Aye... Explorers are actually not so common as I've ran this test before in different MMO communities and typically Achievers and Socializers are the main ones. Obviously this test isn't for games with strictly PvP, such as CS, LoL or games of that nature.

 

I think at it's base, the test applies to any game player, no matter the genre. These questions, however, might be a little narrow and not apply as much for the other types of games. Remember it's not supposed to test your play style, but your personality.

Which means that if you think that your results are off, it could be that you're not answering the questions to reflect the ways that you actually play. Though, yes, the questions might not be 100% perfect either.

I have only read that it exists, but someone did an eight-way test somewhere out there in internetland.

Wasn't very surprising though. Since I am a certified care bear, I guess the 0% in Killer was spot on as well.

 

Okay, and some of those questions could have gone either way,... so,...

 

lol yeah I kept wondering where the 3rd option was. It was like 'well since you phrase it THAT way I'll choose thing because I don't care about the other thing so I might as well get something out of it' but I didn't really feel like I'd care that much about either option.
