Great post @Graynight! I've only been around for the past year, but I'm very thankful I found the game and this community. It's been a hell of a lot of fun seeing everything develop and I'm very excited for the future.

Keep up the great work everyone! And that goes for the staff and the players! I really apreciate all the hard work that has been put into developing and testing the game! Happy Holidays everyone!

Isn't that pretty much true of Reddit in general?

+1 Great work thus far, every monthly release sees new content and features.

Merry Christmas to all at Portalarium. (now how do I raise a complaint with town planning that just built a giant pagoda entrance in front of my house removing my view and at the same time obscuring the sun)

I have been here for years, literally. It is a roller coaster of extreme ups and downs. I have made posts like this begging for people to stop raining crap on my parade, the game. I have made super-positive posts to turn the tide. At other times, I have had a few bouts of lucid depression here as well, like the cheating, RMT and etc. So, just take a couple aspirin and call it a day.

The developers have consistently proven their ability to not give into the loudest of voices, even those with the biggest wallets. That is something to take comfort in. I regret to admit that when I started here, I was adamant that this game not be anything I learned to hate about other games. Much of my opinions went into the void where they belonged.

There are also a few RL trolls that visit from time to time. As I sometimes take discussions to PMs, it is sometimes obvious who is trolling just because privately they will tell you how they trust nobody and are on a mission... Of course, 90%+ of the time people think trolls are those that don't reason with them or are not polite. But I am talking of the real trolls.

Nice Post OP! Lots of times people come to the forums because they feel passionate about the game, and disagree or dislike one or many more parts of it. Many times it becomes negative or tunnel visioned or arguments that become circular in nature, but I think at the end of the day we need to let people know we appreciate the work and world that they're building, even if we don't always see eye to eye, or the whole picture. Hats off to the DEVS for such a large undertaking, and many thanks for all of your work on this wonderful world! Happy Holidays to all.

Have to agree. Loving the game. Been loving it since R9 (the day I found out about it). While some may be upset about this or that, I can really see the devs thinking big picture and long term... and to me that matters more than some algorithm being off by .00002% or the current cost of fish.

I love what has happened to Ardoris, although I will miss the grittiness on one hand, you have to LOVE the beautiful thing they created, and continue to create.

Like the OP said, and said it well.... Thanks Devs! Enjoy a little time with the family and have an extra cup of Eggnog! You earned it.

Will be buying SOTA for my friend on steam. Keep up the good work!

I'd spend more time in the forums battling back the negativity, but I'm too busy playing the game and making friends. Cuz, it's awesome.

    Thanks, OP.

I constantly ignored SotA for years because of a lot of circumstances and things not all relied to gaming itself and then a player who I played Tabula Rasa with told me that SotA is a great community game and nice gamemechanics what is worth trying.
Then he said there will be no more wipes, but I shouldnt expect all to be fine.
I buyed a copy from Steam.
I pledged to Pilgrim, because my alter ego is a wandering wizard , a seer and seidr.
I always love to be the sithlord mage, I did it in many games, Skyrim, Eso..., I like druids and shamans... I go for Airmagic.
I buyed a witch hat and colored my robes white, while the hat was grey already.
I was totally lost when passing the moongate from bloodriver to solstice.
I met two men and we had a great adventure, while i ask for help to investigate the swamps and this dark tower that attracts me for days.
Luckily the two guys were strong :)
The escort me to the Drachvald Region and the 4 PotS who most germanspeaking UO players should know.
Drachenfels, Dracheninsel, Drachental and Drakenhof. (But of course there are other nice PoT with germanspeaking players like Gladsheim or Ahnenhain).?
I buyed a deed and a house from the store.
I stumble a bit (and still do) about going further, getting gold and XP, because i become the seer of Drachental and was often just online to roleplay.
I play to the Wisp of Moontree just for roleplay, I went stronger in Airmagic and I still love to be outside at night in a dangerous area, when it's raining and thunder and lightning fill the atmosphere , skeletons come for me and I swing my pole or wands to knock them down on the ground.
My Ravenpets crowings fill the air when I did the last hit. I step into the Nightshadows gathering for strength.
My magical development went for water and life. I went with others against Trolls and Dragons, when I first come into the epitaph of desolis and went down the stairs my heart was freezed. I was never been so much impressed by a dungeon.
Of course this impression attenuates, but the first impression is what makes you feel. I still have this feeling!!!
I decided not to haste and to have time to explore the dungeons and the world. I get lost when on a raid to the obsidian forge while searching for old books while the others fight. I get lost when we went through the spindrift passage for the first time, because the mage was attracted by the gems all around. I decided to slow down more to let all these fabulous impressions become as intense as they could be.
And they can be very much.
Imagine what happens if a roleplayer were guided by some experienced roleplayers through the world and such beatifull and atmospheric places.
I wish everyone could have such an immersion and is really soaked in like the intro does.
I was and still i am.
I buyed a village, I began to farm regencies, I decorate my garden while behind the house my ressources began to grow.
I buyed a telescope to watch the Stars, I buyed a Moondial to emphasize I am a seer. I wrote some short poems and sayings on a sheet of paper lay it down for wandering people who may want to rest in my garden. I wrote a book about my philosophy, about destiny, past, present and future.
I learned more about runes and glyphs.
I buyed a Vendor, I colored my robes grey, I buyed 2 Wands from a player, my guild leader gifted me some enchanted robes.
I buyed a well, I cooked food for my friends and let my Vendor Manfred Drake sell Mandrake for a special low price.
I met people like me, druids, a strange guy who tell me he get here by a lightbeam, his story remembers me on bifröst the bridge between the world of my ancient gods Asgard and the World of humans Midgard. I buyed this nice big round table with Daedalus on it. I am still curious about the Moon, I buyed a throne with Moon Sign and I plan to buy that Benefactor plague.
I was lent a stone circle from the PoT owner and decided to leave the house and go further with my study's in the circles basement, where obsidian lights fill the second floor in a diffuse magical light to enlighten the Moondial orbited by 3 Dragonbone thrones (thanks to @Lars von Drachental, @Duke Albert ,@SteelCore).
I buyed a second village to go further with farming and still have a garden behind the stonecircle to hang around with friends and discussing things. But when we are just mages sitting outside near the stonecircle and feel the might of the Moon and the magic we went under the circle and sit down in this ancient obsidian hall with the Moondial and the thrones and come together as the Council of the Grey Hall.
Talking about destiny, past, present and future.

I love the game, since I read the official forums I recognized some complaining, I also did here and there, but I always support the devs by buying things and giving good reviews to friends.

Thank you Portalarium, I had the greatest time of MMORPG in games from Richard Gariott, Ultima Series, Tabula Rasa (sniff) and now Shroud of the Avatar!!!

I was like oh theres a subreddit for the game, cool!

Then I checked it out and browsed for a little bit. You were NOT kidding nor exaggerating. It seems the real active commenters there seem to be a lot of the same people known around here for their trolling and general toxicity, so no real surprise I suppose.

On topic, add my +1 to the OP. There are aspects of the game I am most definitely not satisfied with but overall the devs are doing a pretty decent job and the communication has been good.

I can only agree with Graynight, Stundorn and all the others. Of course there is still some work to do but this game is already great and (most of) its community is awesome. :)
