Acceptable Names

Yeah that original name isnt actually offensive, so I dont know why you would need to change, if it was sh1t pants that might be different. You really should get an answer on this one.

 

There was a time when my name would be frowned on in a sandbox based reputation system.

But with proper character background and actions, sentiments and views would change, albeit a non conventional traditional role-playing name.

 

Well, what most likely happend is whoever was offended and reported you thought your name was a play on words for "Stinky B*tches"

It's similar to what happened to a guild I knew in another game I played. Their name was actually meant to be a play on words though... It was "Britches and Hoes" lol. They ended up renaming the guild to "Fine Antique Legware" after they were reported for it.

The was another guild that had their name forcibly changed in that game as well. Their original name was "Big Damn Heroes." It was changed by the devs to "The Amazing Purple Wolves" rofl.

 

nerfing names is pretty random. There's a baron longdong von something sexual for a month now - no one changes that name. Maybe you didn't pledge enough money to keep dirty names?

Well, you could always report him if it offends you. I think mostly names get fixed because it's reported. Reactionary system.

 

BUT, just because it is reported doesn't mean it needs fixing.

 

Port makes the ultimate decision. I merely meant I don't think that they are scouring names daily to see if anything needs changing. Unless they are made aware of it by players (much like many of the bugs in game), they won't know.

 

Really subjective topic. Was once questioned why I named an alt "Theresa Ho" in another game, I think. Was only after a a fair bit of head scratching did I figure out why that name raised a flag. I wonder if Port will have any issues if I named an alt similarly in this game. The "offensive" part of that name happens to be a perfectly good Chinese last name.

 

About the only game I had name trouble was with an ice summoner named Daoc Duine'geallefeusag.

I suppose it wasn't the Gaelic 'man with white beard' surname.

The problem is someone that was role playing likely got offended and reported the name.

 

I'm appalled by the bs that is being moderated. If any portalarium employee finds themselves in this situation, why not make oneself useful and help with uncloning a scene or something. It's pretty obvious nothing to serve the community is going on here. Let's take a step back and actually listen to what people here are saying and go back to a little common sense reasoning.

If you're offended by britches, you should probably go take a long walk off a short pier, cause life is gonna be pretty hard.

Though something tells me there's some back room favors going on here

 

I know of at least one major Community figure, and the sort of person that would complain about names/immersion/etc that has a worse name than this, wonder what would happen if she was reported.
