Any card players out there? how about a casino/tavern with mini games like cards

How about a casino/tavern in one of the larger towns that could have a few mini games for players. This could be a good money soak (house always wins) and a great place to socialize.

Lets face it.... most of us wanting this game played the original UO back in the day, we are all older now and have acquired a few other addictions besides video games.

I love a good card game.
Anything from the typical casino games, blackjack and texas holdem
To the more traditional favourites like hearts, euchre, five hundred
We've started playing the italian game Briscola at work and everyone's getting hooked

 

Actually these are the only minigames I hope to see in SotA. I'm not a fan of minigames to make something like crafting work. However if there is a mini-game for poker, that's a whole different story. So I guess I like games within games, but not mini-games to make a system work.

 

Id love poker in the game. Probably have to be a drop in cash game more so than a 10-50+ seat tournament but i would like in any style. And would have to be no limit please.

 

It would be cool to have a fortune teller mini-game or mini-aspect

 

I spoke about this in KS days and I like the idea. Not only card games but also chess, go, darts and any other kind of game (even drinkign ones) could be great. In some private UO servers also I played that Final Fantasy style game, you can collect the card of the monsters sometimes from the corpses (not reqalistic, but was fun anyway to play it). But I will preffer other than poker, not because poker is bad, but I dont feel poker very "medieval". Maybe a verions of "hearts" with custom cards could be nice. It feel more meviedal for me (even if is modern, I dont know).

I personally would like to see card games such as blackjack or poker (especially no-limit Texas Hold 'Em) played in the taverns, but, of course, that wouldn't be historically accurate I can see it now...

"What is this "poker" you speak of?", asked the NPC, "You must be an outlander!"

The other bar patrons suddenly turn to look at the avatar.

"Kill him!", one of the bar patrons shouts.

The avatar turns and runs out of the tavern, with the angry mob in hot pursuit...

 

I love gambling in a game because A) I don't want to lose my RL money anymore with gambling & B) I love to risk my in game money to gamble

Also, didn't hear any mention of Slot machines, roulette, craps, horse racing, keno.

 

I agree that minigames could be an unnecessary distraction in the leadup to Release 1 but they would sure make a good dot point for Release 2 features. I'm sure that there will be sufficient mechanics in the free interaction areas so that something player created can emerge. Giant checkers with crates for example.

 

I would love to lose all my hard earned gold in a drunken card game at the Bear Tavern.

 

We might have to go underground....Just another reason to get a basement

Dont Portalarium already do a Facebook Poker game i thought i read somewhere? If so then they already have a game engine we could access quite easily id imagine.

 

One day when I was drunk I gave to an npc 60.000 gold coins... And at that time 60k was a lot! :O

Being an avid gambler myself... Id love to see this! =P
I mainly focus on video poker though, lowest in volatility wont eat up the bankroll like all the other games do.
So sure lets have gambling taverns in SotA where we can all get together at the tables and through our in-game gold around!

 

For much of the first set of games like chess, don't actually need anything but the ability to look at the board and move the pieces. We really don't need the game client/server to manage a game of chess. We can play naturally like we do in real life. I don't need ratings or anything silly like that, just a gameboard with pieces (that stay on the board).

For the second list, some of those could be skill based (like if we are skilled with ranged weapons or not for archery), and then skill checks can be made for some of the other games. (however the ability to scale the difficulty in something like archery would be nice for those who don't have the skill). Wrestling would be something that might require a game patch that sounds complex but fun, and possibly a useful skill in PvP.

I would also like to add dagger throwing competition to the list. (instead of darts). Would be nice to throw daggers at a target.

 

Also another game that could very easy to put in the game is the "go". Just a talbe and some black and white stones. ^^
