When I was doing research for another issue someone mentioned on here(harassment) I ran across someone claiming that he can no longer access the online game itself after being banned from here.

    Is this a thing?

I thought the game was separate from the forums?

Please tell me this is the case?

I'm not trying to cry wolf, but I would like so some clarification on this.

I was told if I didn't turn down my Love Machine that they'd ban me from the forums, the game, and the city of Austin. So yeah it's a thing.

They didn't seem to care that the Love Machine only has two settings, "on" and "ohhh yeahhh".

As funny as that is, and it is, it doesn't really answer the question:p

This is not the case. Banning in the forum and banning in the game are seperate.
There are plenty of players who has had time-outs in the forums or even outright bans who have kept playing.

But Portalarium has the option to let one affect the other.

Really? So someone could potentially own the game but not be allowed to play it?

Yep. And that is a prevalent practice in all games with an online feature. You can be banned from playing altogether, even if you bought the game, for breaking terms of service or user agreements.

I can see if they did that in game....but banning someone on the forums and continuing that to the game is basically like exiling someone yet keeping their money....is that even legal without contacting them?

You are not telling the whole story or you do not have the whole story, but yes players can get banned from both. In SotA the forums and the game are pretty much linked. If you have a Game login you have a forum login and visa versa. true they could prob shut one 1/2 off , but go back get the WHOLE story and tell us the whole story and I bet they deserve whatever they got.

I doubt highly they lost game access because they lost forum access :)

I would think that the TOS would relate to actual actions ingame, while Forum Rules apply to the Forums only.... Right?
However, as Honador said - Port owns both... soo.....
Not likely to be banned from game for being an arse here...

This is a bit concerning because I know for a fact people on here try and get me banned all the time. So I could potentially lose the ability to play the game because someone doesn't like what I say.

Pretty sure it is not allowed....not saying I agree with everything that has happened, but I assume it is safe to say we know who said it.

Don't worry, it's doesn't work that way. You have to do some pretty specific stuff to get banned from a game.

I agree that it is highly unlikely that a person would get banned from the game because they have been banned from the forums. The only double banning I personally know of happened in Istaria years ago & it was due to stealing and then destroying accounts, not from being banned in Istaria's forums.

Now if they have been naughty on the forums and separately was naughty in game at the same time, they might get banned from both, but it would be two separate bans.

Don't know how social you are in game but if you get caught up into something that gets you banned on the forums, keep it on the forums. Don't take it into the game. I'd imagine that's the only way to get banned in both. Move a conflict from one place to the other.

How do you know it doesn't? That's the case in most games I agree....but this person (who cannot be named) was a pain for them on the forums and runs a pretty inflammatory website sure....but is that enough to do this?

According to that site he didn't even get a message saying he was?

Like in every other game. Cheat or brake rules in wow and thats it for you account. Simpel as that.
You brake the rules thats it. Port is in that regard way to n1 if you ask me.

Takes a lot to get banned.

People being banned in a game is nothing new, it happens in many, many games.

Because the rules governing both are different. To get banned from the game requires either in game activities or activities that affect yours or another persons game. Being a jerk on some forums isn't covered under the same rules.

Thinking more about it, there might be one way involving the forums first, but you'd have to check with Support on my theory. It is attempting to be a cracker. Getting caught cracking most likely will get your account banned.
