    Hi there,

nice thread...what i am missing are the cost for the casks. If you are talking over real profit you have to get throug the break even point...

If i do the math a cask cost around 995G ... so it will take time to break this even.

    Cheers from germany

Yes, casks cost approximately 1k gp to make. However, they are infinitely reusable. A beer cask pays for itself after you run approximately 17 cycles of beer (approx 51 RL days) through it, a wine cask pays for itself after 10 runs (70 rl days). That's why i didn't factor in the cost of casks. Yeah they are expensive, but it's not a recurring expense. It's more like for every 1000g you invest into your brewing, you increase your recurring profit by 60-120g.

Oh good, news travels fast... show's over folks... everyone go back to your measly cotton farming.

I've been here like two months... Thanks to port for showing those true colors...

And final note, shout out to the couple folks that saw this coming and tried to warn me...

So sad. Luckily I was still planning my brewing plant planting lot and didn't invest all my gold in starter materials or seeds yet.

I'm in for about 200 wine casks and 60 beer casks so far... Just glad i'm relatively poor compared to the scale i was aiming for.. if i would dropped 300k in casks before this change i would be even more super pissed than i am rn...

Can we a dev to get some more info on what was determined to be the exploit? or did they just do the numbers up after the fact and go "oh these are bad numbers"

Well, I'm sure they plan for us to have "some" profit.

Maybe the issue isn't the amount of profit, but a way for people to somehow sell them early?

I'll put this plan on the "wait and see" shelf.

they either didn't do the numbers expecting millions of gold to be put towards brewing or someone found a way to sell early.

idk, it seems overkill to nerf the price 80% if a few people figured out how to sell early. Info like that would be floating around somewhere. I honestly think it's "Math is hard" for port

Well, I wouldn't lose all hope, at least until they speak more on the subject. In the Livestream, Chris had said there was a profit to brewing by design; they have yet to say what exactly the exploitable issue is. It may be something unrelated to being able to make a profit, and as Darkstarr said, the easiest way to band-aid it is to reduce prices until next release. It may also be that they didn't expect anybody to really try large scale mass production. It sounds (right now, at least) that they still intend for a profit to be possible.
