This may be one of those few rare things that everyone agrees on.

well... I think they're not so bad... y'know since everyone is affected by those damned blackrocks it makes sense, they're all dumbed down to their stupid selves and everyone is alike and without depth.

At least we're here, they have a chance, poor souls.

So I categorically disagree with this OP.

    /signed so much...
found me also turning off sound in City's... some time i become aggressive.
Waiting for a change at every release because it is clear this has to change before a release. It is just a place holder.

Fwiw, at least there is a footsteps sound toggle in the audio menu. It'd be great is there was an NPC sounds toggle also, not that they shouldn't have better sounds anyway. I really like most of the games environmental sounds, so would be nice to be able to separate that stuff out.

The issue with having actual voiced spoken dialog becomes a translation issue. They have to keep the audio confined to grunts, groans, growls, sighs, yells, etc... i.e. things that don't have to be recorded in multiple languages. Recording voice talent can be very expensive and time consuming (I do some voice talent work, so I speak from experience :p), and it becomes a major issue having a sound library for each language. That's why we get the text in a chat window instead of through our speakers. ;)

Never really bothered me since I keep the game muted while I play. I tend to listen to public talk radio on my stereo system while I play.

Yes and also VFX takes band width. So the point is to get a change up of grunts, growls etc that don't irritate the masses. These things need work even though some don't listen many of us do.

Found a new cringing female voice in the highvale outskirts. 15 female guards in a loop all doing the fear sound. I hope no new players hear this!

    Too late! :p

+1 This was one of the first feedbacks I gave when we started. The sieges used to be awful for that. Ferrig's Battlecamp is super "moany."

Hi, hello, greetings! The new soundsmith here!

There are definitely quite a bit of sounds (including current VO!) that I'd like to make improvements to, so your thoughts and concerns aren't falling on deaf ears (which in general would be terrible for a sound person)! The balance of revising existing content (especially early, front-end experiences for new players) and supporting new content is a weird dance!

A fair chunk is certainly temp, so many thanks for your patience as new sounds slowly make their way into your ears <3.

    @Bread Vendor

Maybe do a global replace of the ones to update to something obviously temporary. The barking alligators comes to mind. :)
But seriously, maybe run the temp sounds through a synthesizer for an obvious alteration. So when the good stuff to come happens we will all be pleasantly surprised and happy.

Oh thank you for your comment and welcome to being the new soundsmith. I look forward to hearing what you do with our sounds. Perhaps it sounds a bit harsh with some comments and I would ask for myself and all of us to give constructive feedback that is respectful and helpful to you and all the work you will do for us and the game. Thanks so much. :)

Might I suggest a placeholder sound for guards and cabolist in sieges to be redone to sound like Beevus and Butthead? At least until the new sounds are added.
