@Elgarion I removed a few things... What exactly qualifies as underutilized? There's a lot of things that are only used in a single recipe. But I don't think anybody would argue tin is underutilized.

(Okay, I checked; tin is in at least three recipes, don't get on me for that. My point remains, even if my example is bad.)

Animal Bone - Only used to create Beef Stock.

    Aortic Thombus - Unused

    Black Cutworm - Unused

Cinnamon Bark - Used in a couple breaks, couple pies, Daemon Tea, and Dyes, but should have much more use in cooking

Corpse Wax - Reagent, and used in several potions

    Emerald Ash Borer - Unused

    Hemlock Borer - Unused

Nickel - Used in Constantan and Meteoric Iron, but could also have use

Pure Elemental Sand - Used in Hourglass, but could be used for a lot of things. Sand + Rusty gear to polish them (slight stat/visual improvement?). Alternative to gem frags for crafting Glass Sheet. Concrete style blocks. Crafted desktop "stone" models. Sand castles. Should probably have a non-Pure version, harvestable, that can be purified using an Alchemy recipe.

Sinew - Only used in Iolo's Goulash.

Spider Eye - Used in Spider Soup, but otherwise unused. Seems like a good Alchemy component.

Spider Leg - Only used in two cooking recipes.

Spider Silk - Used as a reagent, but could also be used to craft actual silk. Alternatively, consider adding silkworms that you can get Raw Silk from for this purpose. Silk could be a higher-tier cloth alternative.

Tin - Used in Bronze and White Iron, but also used in the Pewter Place Setting. Would be nice to have more Pewter items, like desktop "metal" models. Plain tin items, like a Tin Cup, would be nice too.

Tungsten - Used in Meteoric Iron and White Iron, but has a lot of uses.

Various non-pristine heads (Crocodile Head, Grand Boar Head, etc) - Unused

Venom Sack - Used in Paralyzing Spider Venom poison, but could be used in other Alchemy.

    Zinc - Unused

Trophy items - Turning a food item into a trophy item, especially the various fish, should also give fillets. Don't waste the meat!
While discussing Trophies, please hide all of them in the crafting journal by default. They are all discoverable, but it is overwhelming for new players to find anything with the way the journal works currently.

I believe I've gotten all of those, plus many other food items, from the Artisan Box of Plenty as well.

I has an idea a while back, that I felt was logical:

Since an aortic thrombus is the very thing that sustains the life force of a Wolf, this potion would have a Life effect. The potion could use other (life related) reagents to make.

The poison and/or explosive potion would have an effect on PvE creatures that are vulnerable to Life magic, like Undead.

This could also be used in PvP, but most people already have a high Life attune anyways(?).

    My suggestions:

Emerald Ash Borer And Hemlock Borer ; This two ingredients have no use and came from hasvesting Maple and Pine trees.... the best use i can imagine is for a new tier of carpentry components.. maybe mixing with t2 timber like rock maple.. hard maple.. grey pine for something more powerfull as result. These ingredients can have the name changed to something more milling related, they also need a new icon.

Aortic Thombus and Black Cutworm; You can get from skinning animais and harvesting wild cottons....could be used to created a new tier of tailoring components... mixing with fusian, carapacian, hard and supple leather resulting in t3 crafting component. Black Cutworm need a new icon

Chaotic Polen: Looted from plants in shardfalls and ruins...places affected by obsidian shards (PVP zones). Its an ingredient for chaotic posion but Could be better used, maybe combining to obsidian chips to raise the success chance in crafting.

Maple and Pine tree bark: Used for some dyes but need more use for it

Zinc: I got about 4 from supply bundles. cant be obtained by mining right now, maybe some nodes in ep 2 scenes ?.. have no use this could be a new component for t3 metals... could be combined with constant. .bronze. meteoric and white iron.

At this point I'm not sure I care what it is so long as something replaces corpse wax in beneficial potions. (Shall beat that drum until it breaks :) )

Off the top of my head:

    • Turkey meat - no cooking recipes exist currently
    • Low tier animal meats (oysters, duck, chicken, pork, cow, and mutton) currently have limited viability due to the few and very low tier recipes.
      • I propose the following relationship between ingredients and attunement to offer more variety of buffs and make each meat unique and relevant:
        • Fire
          • As is most lava fish
          • chicken for non fishers?
        • Sun
          • Sunfish (as is)
          • Fresh fruits and veggies as well?
          • Turkey?
        • Earth
          • Trilobite?
          • Catfish?
          • Boar?
          • All of the above?
        • Life
          • Oysters ;)
          • Baked Goods (Breads, Cookies)
        • Water
          • Most common fish
          • Crocodile
        • Moon
          • Wolf
          • Coelacanth?
        • Air
          • Stag/Venison
          • Sailfish (as is)
        • Death
          • Cannibal Stew
          • Rotten meat
          • Cooked Meat
          • Cat
        • Chaos
          • Duck
          • Demon Tea (as is)
    • Tea Leaves - only useful in Demon tea - should be at least a standard green or black tea as a 1 point buff to make growing it worth it for low Al level farmers and chefs.

    I agree Sir Bowen...

Free the Chef and make cooking less stagnate:

Our recipes are a stagnant feature of our game, where recipes from long ago were cute (placeholders). I am in favor of preserving these as they are, with whatever assigned nutritional values placed on them.

Yet here's the thing... I'd like to see a nutritional value placed on each edible thing within our game "with no stagnate recipe needed" to be combined (cooked) together, depending on each cooks skills, as to how much nutritional value the cook could place into any cooked meal.

    Example:

    • A cook with 1 skill, could cook a meal which included 1 nutritional value, providing a buff of 1 (example, cook a single carrot, it's a meal, yet more nutritional value than raw).
    • A cook with 120 skill, could cook a meal containing 120 nutritional value, providing a buff which amounted to 120 through combining many different ingredients together.
    • Certain ingredients could be assigned different nutritional properties, such as focus, str, dex, or other buff which they added when combined in the cook's chosen concoction or "recipe of the day".
    • Such foods could then be sold off menus either sold from the COTO Store or player crafted (wooden sign/"Menu"). Click on the menu, see what the ingredients are and what that "daily special" (or whatever the Chef chooses to call it) would provide the player in buff value. Several menus provided could then feature different dishes that cook offered, which could then cater to mage/fighter/or other specialized adventurer.
    Each food could then be valued to it's rarity, or in special ingredients, "atonement", as described in @Sorgin Txakal 's idea;

With such a change, or system as described "freeing the chef", it wouldn't matter what their combination would be called, as long as it's ingredients were listed when combined.

If I the player cooking wanted to cook then, with any edible combination of ingredients, they would be free to do so.

I think this is important when looking at "what edible ingredients we are coming back from our hunts with". Most such things get sold to NPCs, yet if they could be combined by the player, with a free hand to do so without our current stagnant recipe restrictions, they could then cook themselves a sort of "pot luck" dish from what they actually gathered from loot while hunting, or from the garden they may be growing, or a combination of the two, which would be "far more creative for the player" to enjoy our cooking skill.

Preserve Our Past, but Free Our Chefs!
    ~Time Lord~

Sinew. As Browncoat Jayson said, it's only used in Iolo's Goulash. Given that sinew can be used for bow strings and as wells as thread, how about a new type of bow string and a type of thread specifically for leather.
