Crooked Shank Mayor's Key

OK, so I've spent a couple of hours now hovering over everything in the Gilded Carpe looking for the Mayor's key. Since nothing pops here I've spent some time in all of the open houses and planters looking, in vain, for any trace of the key. I popped over to the QA server to see if perhaps it was a bug , but I'm seeing the same thing, nothing, there as well.

Can someone who's done this quest throw a poor archer a bone?

When I did this a couple releases ago, it was sitting on the "stage" area with the dancers.

 

That's the ticket. I was getting a little irritated with the marker (on the compass) indicating I should search the area just outside the Tavern.

Boom! Yes! I love a quest

 

Do any of you know the purpose or the goal of the Crooked Shank Mayor's Key Quest? I completed it and it is not longer listed as one of my tasks to do. Is this a quest to help you think about the choices of real life?

 

Did you discover the..... stuff in the Mayors house? Or did you just return his key?

 

I discovered ... stuff. He didn't seem to happy when I returned the key though.

 

He was less than happy. He and his body guard attacked me.

I had previously done this quest but it was seriously bugged.
I tried again last week and I think I completed it but not sure it is finished.

After that, everyone in the town was mad at me.
If I tried to talk to anyone in town, they would attack me and tell me I was a murderer.

The quest seems to end without resolution since I was not able to accomplish any meaningful task even though:

• I opened the cell with the Elf but could not convince her to leave,
• I talked to all the children in the Elf Tunnel but they said help was too late,
• I did not instigate aggression on anyone or the Elves in the tunnel but they attacked me,
• I toured the entire area looking for other clues.

 

My issue is at the final stage I think

I found the kids room but they dont tell me anything, and nothing new in the journal.. so I can't finish the quest

 

If I am recalling correctly(?), this place is tied (hostility) depending on what you did in the “food” quest in Blood River Outskirts. I may be confusing this though....

The whole thing ends with you confronting the Mayor about everything going on and the whole town going hostile on you. After that, there's nothing that says the whole thing is done and if you go back into the Mayor's house, you're likely to restart the quest chain at an earlier point in your journal which won't go away.

It's a cool series of events that reminds me of the movie Hot Fuzz, but it doesn't seem to lead to anything that could be considered a resolution

 

Yes, this is a weird one. I followed all the steps in the quest, and then the Mayor and all the previously friendly residents turned on me and wanted to attack me. The alt I was playing at the time would have been more than happy to support the actions of the townspeople. They never even gave me a chance! *sobs* LOL

 

I have noticed these ongoing comments about the Mayor quest.
I kinda think I have done this quest awhile ago but could someone refresh my memory & tell me the name of the quest & the quest starter?

Mayor Byron of Crooked Shank is the quest starter. Unfortunately the Knowledge Journal doesn’t list the quest name or title it was.

Some quests of the past have become a blurry 1/2 recollection, so time to clarify if I have done this one

 

Of note, you will receive 0 XP finishing any of the quests in this quest line (I did this during the double XP event last month, hoping to get sweet sweet XP but was awarded none). You of course will get XP for all the combat etc...

 

Is this quest bugged ? I can talk to the elf in the mayor's house, but he won't respond to dialog. I also have the elf key on the body, but I can't open the door.

 

Check the instructions in your journal. That whole sequence was a bit odd, if I am Remembering correctly.
