    Greetings,

I am wondering if the dev team has a Mac specialist to debug the many Mac bugs? A friend of mine has programmed exclusively for Mac for a living for 20 years. He has ported games from Windows to Mac. And he has written his own UO-like MMORPG from scratch. Does the dev team have anyone with such Mac experience? If not and you want to look him up, his name is Glenn Seemann.

    Thanks

A Mac specialist? On the Mac client:
    1. One of the most important aspects of moving - turning - requires pressing a button that does not exist on a Mac
    2. Auto-Run defaults to a key that does not exist on a Mac.
I'm not convinced they even have a Macintosh and didn't just click a checkbox that says compile for Mac. I waited and avoided early releases because I knew Windoze would get priority and didn't want to deal with clunky and buggy Mac interfaces but clearly 8 releases has not been enough to even get the basics down. PvP release? It would be a slaughter fest for anyone using a mac.
I doubt very seriously they have a Mac specialist.

    I second this!
I play on a Mac too, and I don't even consider trying to log on for the same reasons.
But I support the suggestion to have a dedicated Mac specialist (Looking at you RG!)

Yes, there are many Mac bugs. But I think most - maybe all - of the software has the same code base. Therefore it is an issue of the distinct ports of the Unity engine which causes these failures. Portalarium can report these errors to Unity Technologies but cannot solve them in one's own right.

I would say they do have MAC specialist.

I test on both but mainly MAC... Stability has improved significantly but the Windows version runs much better at this stage.

I have to set 'target self ' everytime I log on which has caused me many a death from forgetting.

The main problem I'm having is shadows cause a lot of problems. (hangs, load failures)

Without shadows, way less problems but sometimes leaving zones results in hangs on load... not sure why.

But I played probably 30 hours during R8 and while there were issues, it was generally playable.

It was an improvement on loading times big time from R7.

Hope they figure it out soon because it was more stable from R1 to R5 (although I didn't have these cards then so maybe that's why)

I've tried both Intel Iris Pro and Nvidia Geforce GT 750m (laptop cards)

Both were close in terms of speed and both had similar problems.

I had less issues on an Intel GMA 4000 card, so maybe it's just these cards...

Apple is really spotty about keeping the graphics drivers in Mac OS X up to snuff.

That said, Portalarium still needs to figure out a way to make it work.

It's playable on my MacBook Pro with some graphical glitches, but much, much smoother on my Windows box. I also have to force quit sometimes when it hangs when entering a scene. I don't think I've ever had to do that on the Windows version.

I get the same issue with shadows on my spec 2 system. I have to shut shadows off completely with this machine.

My spec 1 & 3 system is a powermac laptop running windows on bootcamp. This is not too bad with both OSX and WIN.

Spec 4 machine is a brand new iMac and this thing cranks along with full shadows.

I suspect low graphics memory that struggles on the macs.

We have several Devs who play Shroud regularly on a Mac as well as a Dev who works on programing for the Mac client.
