    Rares give another meta game for the people that just have to find everything...another reason to keep playing I don;t see an issue with that at all.

    I am now going to eat my hat and say the above post was wrong. After considerable thought on the matter, IMO, a master of his craft, using semi unique items, should have a chance to create something that could be considered a rare. Just so long as they are not constantly churned out - maybe can only be made for a period of time then it is done.

    Ideally, the same quality of items should be obtainable from PvE, PvP and crafting respectively (imho)

    I agree rares add a good meta game and keep people interested long term. A possible way to have both this rare meta game and a prominently player created equipment system would be to have very rare ingredient drops or harvests. These ingredients are what is required for crafters to make these rare weapons or armor.
