ETA on the real fix for looting chests, this not enganging items while in combat . . . .

    The knee jerk mechanic that prevents players fro looting and engaging with object in war mode should be a fruit on the cutting board? So I am wondering when we can see a viable fix for this?

    As you can see I approached these crates in peace mode, nothing close to hit me and the only way to open them put me in combat, then I have to wait to kool down and get back into non combat to loot, Phfft.

    I'm pretty sure this is a design element to ensure we gather loot slower thus improving the player economy.

    This combat/noncombat constant switching irks me the wrong way.

    Why?

    Either let me open crate in noncombat, or take loot in combat (but not aggroed), or reduce that INSANE cooldown in sheath/unsheath.

    I'm growling even at the mere memory of such a... GRRRRRR... thing! GAH! :mad:

    THis is the same thing as Targeting yourself with the alt key : Bad design to fix something

    This was a workaround to the problem of people sprinting through mobs spamming heal, running past bosses and straight to the loot chests, looting and then either running off or dying with the booty.

    The real solution is not to make chests unlootable in combat, but rather to make the chests locked until the boss or other controlling mob is defeated. This wouldn't be hard. Chests just need a locked/unlocked flag and the bosses get an "onDeath" event that is triggered when they die. The onDeath event tells the chest to unlock.

    This could also be useful in other regards. the onDeath event could trigger gates/doors to open up the rest of the scene or allow a shortcut home, trigger new mob spawns or trip flags for puzzles.

    Half of this may already be in the game, as slimes perform an on-death action of spawning smaller slimes.

    For the loot chests ok.

    But the crates and barrels? Two cooldowns only to grab some metal scraps?

    Oh, no, certainly not. The idea was that once you have the unlock of the boss chests based on the onDeath trigger, go back to the old ways for those crates and barrels.

    ...And the bug they introduced (all new 'features' introduce bugs that break things).. crates used to be able to be walked over after breaking. Now you cannot walk over busted crates. I have a bug report about this.. so we will see how they tweak their new designs.. but I have a secret passage I cannot pass because of this bug.

    This is a direct bug added after they added the crate loot thing, which is terrible to have to wait for a cooldown to loot... if I can loot bodies while in combat, then I should be able to loot a crate as well.

    Can you elaborate on this ?
    What "bosses" are people running past to get to what chests - that caused this "workaround" to be implemented ?

    They already have the doors to the rooms with chests at the Control Points tied to the mob spawn "event", so it's not like it would be hard to implement similar code elsewhere.

    In places like The Rise, you could run as fast as you could, and hope to keep alive, and double-click the chests at the end to open them.. looting was possible while as a ghost as long as you opened them before dying.

    This 'fix' was not a good one for the issue I saw.

    exactly this was not done for control points it was designed for places like Rvensmoore, Tower Suttered Eye, and others that I am sure on either in the works or already out there,

    It was another knee jerk fix that has borked simple crates and things.

    Control points work but need some timer tweaking.

    back on the issues since it is a "fix" my question is when if the fix for the fix coming?

    Soltown dungeon already does this, have to defeat the boss mob to get the key to the treasure room containing the chest. See no reason why it could not just be the key to the chest for any other dungeons boss.

    yeah, it does create some awkward effect. I get on combat to break the container, but then I have to switch back to non-combat to loot it.

    the question is not why it was done, the question is when it the real fix going to come in and let the stuff they borked get back to being put back the way it was so players can go back to playing and not having to jump thru hoops.
