Fiber Cut in Austin

    There has been a catastrophic fiber cut here in Austin in the area our office is in. A drill caught on the fiber cables and not only cut them but wound them along the drill and pulled them out in both directions for an "unknown length". They cannot even provide an estimate as to when they will be able to resume our service.

    This means we have NO internet access at the office. I am typing this on my laptop using my iPhone as a mobile hotspot! :)

    Game play on live and QA should be completely unaffected but we cannot upload new versions until this is fixed.

    Some contractors insurance is going to have to pay out a huge sum lol. That is not a cheap fix.
    I dont know if they can even splice that line, They might have to run a whole new line.

    My fiber still seems functional (AT&T) thankfully....

    Woah, that's gonna cost that company a bundle. When I used to take summer work in construction we knew where the cables were and were veeeeeery careful with the back hoe - the fines for severing the cable were not comfortable at all, though at least you can see the damage. Wrapping it around a drill.... ouch.

    unless it was flagged, and the flagger messed up, then it goes to the flagging companies, well at least here in ND.

    Am I the only one that thinks this calls for an unscheduled vacation! Mass exodus from the area of effect to visit relatives, go fishing, enjoy the sunlight.
