Hometown Question/Discussion

A simple switch? In a Lord British game? Maybe if you start a conversation with a cat and type Hometown.

 

The best way would be to actually show the assets in Unity Web Player, where the link is directly from the Store web page and not in the game at all.
Kinda like how TheMadHermit and Melchior Meijer did for their stuff.

However a decision not to do that was taken by Portalarium a loooong time ago back when the first house pack was given as a developer depot dump. Back then TheMadHermit simply took the houses and placed them in the Village of Recluse (in the web player) which was just a grass unity standard scene with those house assets placed on top which one could walk through.

If they had gone that route then they could have a "chicken room" for each bundle of store decorations, a mini village scene to showcase housing (non-decoed) and even easy to do flyby and aerial views by having the POT templates available as well.
However I see the probability of that happening as less than 1%.

Like Lord Dreamo said, explore the world and other towns. Give players a reason to make their homes great and draw the crowds. Believe me, players will go looking and spread the word.

Why exactly is Hometown staying in the game? it has no reason to be there other than to gratify a community clique. I simply don't accept this whole idea that it becomes a place for people to view housing before they buy, pretty much all housing is in-game in one form or another anyway. What's better than someone visiting an empty fake town to view housing?........visiting a town where players actually live, where there is activity.

Hometown should be the next Nuketown.

 

We don't exactly need more reasons for players not to bother visiting real towns.
