Well there's a good example of cherry picking to make a point. Let's put the camera exactly where it's never meant to go, vs. one that was clearly designed to be exactly where it is meant to go.

Let's also not bother to mention the housing comparisons, UI, or tree differences.

Let's also not show the SotA grass as it is meant to be viewed, and just claim that the image you posted represents grass in the game.

    Well done!

Given that you get that view, or one like it, every time you past through vine covered caves or walk down a grassy slope, I assume Port intends for you to see them. If he really wanted to be mean, he could have just pointed the camera at any of the thousands of map boundaries that aren't real boundaries, but are just poorly textured walls.

Think thats what you get for saying he was cherry picking.

I was a bout to post a pic of SOTA where im in a siege and im CONSTANTLY fighting with the damn trees blocking my camera angle, and how 90% of the time they just look AWFUL.. but yea this guy pretty much covers it.

While graphics arent that important to me,
Yea... i could say * this item looks amazing in SOTA! * But.. i can also look at any of the other 5000 things that look outdated in SOTA. Literally any scene there are examples, of graphics loosing to games over a decade older, by all aspects of the word.

Not exactly sure by what you mean as * its meant to be viewed? unless SOTA is designed for me to take very specific screenshots from very specific angles to make things look awesome? Because i can do that in any game and make the same argument.

Haven't read the whole thread so someone may have brought this up already, but: starter outfit MUST be updated. People have seen that same boring, tight, brown outfit for years in different videos and screenshots, it must go.

The devs are planning to add the feature to the Magic Mirror to allow the players to choose colors of the starter outfit when creating a new character. (at 0:17:30–0:17:51 in the R41 Postmortem Livestream video)

Looking at some of these screenshots from games in 2005 makes me glad I played UO right up until SotA.

Pure white robe.. pixels that I could stare at (and have) for a decade.

    Good comparison images, nice work.

These images may also point out that lighting can make a huge difference.

I always thought that lighting and UI were some of the latter things to come in game development?

The funny part of this topic is that this game is supposed to be a UO successor and OU graphics are the definition of crap. Everytime I see a game in steam that looks like UO, I click "Not Interested" and move on. I understand that there are some freaking amazing graphical games out there. Even the subject matter of this game lends itself to be dated even with the best graphics on the planet employed. If the 400+ Star Citizen employees join this game, the graphics would still be called dated. As it is, people are pissed because it won't play on their antique computers. I am really impressed by the graphics. It is just the context that looks old.

A Ford F100 is true work of art. In a perfect replication with the best graphics, it would still be a Ford F100.

This thread is more dated than the graphics in my opinion.

Heres one of the best decorated / nicest houses in the game .. oh woops i didnt angle it right for that perfect shot though...

Again, house looks awesome.. the town setup is awesome. Hell evne the graphics on most the decorations look decent. But the foliage actually hurts this pic IMO...

Is it though? i mean.. Heres Just Cause 2. -- 2007. ( First pic i grabbed with in game shot of the foliage in the back)

Like i said.. the graphics in SOTA dont bother me.. but lets not pretend we arnt comparing it to games a DECADE old already..

Luckily i think SOTA is going for gameplay/content more then actual enviromental detail. Which is more important to me personally.

@MrBlight, I have been taking some art classes myself for retirement purposes and one thing that has become very clear to me is just how much detail is "really" needed to be considered overwhelming for a human. Computers go way above and beyond what a human really needs to consider it jaw dropping beautiful. The irony is that Just Cause intentionally chose what needed detail and what doesn't, just a professional artist might do. While SOTA seems to provide equal detail at a broader spectrum. The more detail we see, the more we criticize it for not being detailed enough. So SOTA's problem is they try to provide too broad a range of detail. I hope that made sense. Human eyes have a natural field of vision and focal point. More is not more to our senses.
