I am one who LOVES the old Ultima games, and when the first npc I encountered reminded me of the gypsies in the original Ultimas I was excited, but it faded fast because so far it doesn't seem to effect much. I did not put a lot of time towards questing though so I'd love to hear some stuff about how the questing goes, I'll try some more myself when I don't have to work in less than an hour.
Talking to other npcs and it getting to be just the 'name', 'job', etc ...it seemed much more limited from SoTA in the beginning stages. Before it seemed that you could reword things and they would still respond, now I've gotten many 'hmm?'s or 'I don't understand'.
SoTA is VERY Ultima, which I'm not sure at this point how much I like or don't like it, because yes Ultima was an incredible game, but SoTA is not Ultima...or it wasn't supposed to be. I'll play more to see what more there is to the world.

The gypsy thing is interesting because it just doesn't matter...it feels like a wasted scene because at the end of it all you can just make a selection and ignore her. She has zero weight.

SotA is very Ultima in what way? I see some things like the virtues and some of the mechanics but the actual world building is very different. Matter of fact a few of us have been pushing for more Ultima like, make the world feel lived in. At the moment it feels very empty.

Could care less about the old Ultima games. That was not my reason for purchasing and playing. I tried playing them all over the years and quite frankly - didn't like any of them.

The closer we get to the release date the more and more it looks like it's an ultima by nostalgia only. That nostalgia is what helped alot of people on the fence make the decision to pledge, myself included

I agree that it seemed to take a step backward in that respect as well from early on. Maybe they should just remove the typing completetly and use just keywords.

My exact reaction. I don't understand why anyone would back this game if this is their opinion.

I want more Ultima. The original Kickstarter video had a much more "ultima" feel than the current iteration of the game. I don't feel great about how the game feels more like Dark Age of Camelot or Gothic III at the moment (an albeit much less complete version of those).

100% agree the main thing that interested me in this game was the hope it would be like the old ultima's of the past rich and compelling story lines that kept me gripped from beginning to end . Yes the gfx look dated on them from what they are today but to me they were the best rpg's of there time. Sota is not quite there yet but I am convinced it will be and look forward to playing the completed game.

I actually like Ultima Pagan, mainly because it gave me a feeling of life being fragile, anyone can crush you any time especially at the beginning of the game just because you gave the wrong answer.

As far as 3rd person vs isometric view, that doesn't matter much to me. I'm good with what we have with SotA camera. Although, certain locations could need some work though (e.g., in front/behind the fences and walls).

SotA does have the Ultima vibe already in it. Lots of what I see reminds me of the single player games. Well done Portalarium!

Only Ultima-esque thing so far is how you can open every single box and barrel only to find absolutely nothing.
