It might help to read the recently posted "Roadmap" for info on when town sieges will appear. Furthermore, their stated release is tied to completed Kickstarter goals. They said they'd be in the game and they've said that release will not happen until they are.

Regarding taxes, they should require a certain dedication and regular play. Someone who cannot complete the simple demand for taxes is not playing enough deserve a permanent, rare and visible house. It doesn't just affect the owner of property, it affects everyone with the resultant empty, inactive yet unavailable lots.

Paying rent in this game is remarkable easy and should, in fact, be no problem for anyone that plays even casually. You don't have to play an hour a day to pay taxes. Maybe an hour a week? Farm one beetle carapace off of a cotton plant? $2000 gold.

    200 row
    400 village
    800 town
    1600 city
    ?

The royal orb is working properly and lets you into the special/secret chat channel. The royal scepter is what reduces the lot tax and vendor fee in half.
Unless I don't know how to work it (likely) it is not active yet.

There are two orbs, and one scepter. The one orb gives you Nobles channel. The other two (Royal Orb and Scepter) reduce vendor fees and lot tax, and up until now had not been implemented AFAIK.

P.S. Friend me in game if you'd like. I'm Cianna there, too.

@Duke Gréagóir, I don't know at this point. I scrapped my original plans when the tax increase came out because I had to re-think everything. I only have a holdfast, so I'm not looking to do anything on a grand scale, but I was hoping to be able to offer at least 6 to 8 houses to new outlanders for their use while they get their feet under them in game. At present, I have about four tax free deeds I am using for these homes, and I was going to supplement with taxable deeds, up to an amount I can afford to subsidize. Won't do anything now until after wipe, when I can get a better handle on things. For now, I'm sticking with the tax free deeds I already own.

@Mugly Wumple -- I only have one point on this view that I disagree with. Our fine service men who might play this game , will not be able to play as the rest of us will. I do think allowances should be made for them. They are most certainly dedicated, but to a service that benefits us all. Just an side point that might be needed to be taken into consideration. Some may not have someone to log in for them.

I actually believe in the USA, that there's some housing property protection laws that cover their housing while deployed...
Maybe that would extend to cover virtual housing o_O
    Just a thought...~Time Lord~:D

The nobles orb does the chat thing
The royal Scepter does the rent thing and was working last time I checked it
The royal orb is supposed to reduce the Vendor commision by 50% for 1 month, haven't tried it on public vendors yet, and private vendors are commision free.

Only reason I clarify your clarification is because I walked around with the royal orb in my inventory for two days wondering why I couldn't talk or hear nobles chat.

I think POTs should have been tax-free. I do not think taxes are the best goldsink in the game, I am pretty sure their purpose is to prevent inactive hoarders occupy the most desirable places in the game. NPC towns should be active and players living there should be the most active players. POTs are bit of an extra and since POT owners decide who can live there anyway, the taxes do not make much sense.

The 'fairness and consistency' argument to not treat POT owners as special wins out with me.

But I agree on taxes as gold sinks in general. Lot inactivity may be enough to turn over lots in the economy if tuned right. Both taxes and activity are somewhat of a double whammy being applied to what is supposed to be a 'major feature' of fun in the game. But I can see why they do it for balance (a cost to maintain a rarer, bigger lot) and suppose taxes in the long run will be affordable.

    I feel your pain.

I know my own thoughts/plans have been impacted as well thought on a smaller scale. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it plays out but my ability to sustain enthusiasm get's "taxed" by this stuff.
