How much customization do you want SOTA characters to have?

  1. None. Everyone gets the skills, you put points to the skills you plan to use, you get good at them.

I'm sorry this whole statement is rubbish.

If someone doesn't want to be involved in pvp (I am saying this as a pvp'er) they should'nt be forced to miss out on a large portion of the game. This will just cause players, and more importantly cash away from the game. There can't be this "My way or the highway" attitude. We all can coexist where no one side is getting it all. We can have (for example) "zones" where safety is assured by the lords of the land, and lands of chaos and villiany.

Also in "real" life you are more likely to be pk'd in the cities not the country. Let's keep real world far from our fantasy game.

Quite right! That's the whole reason for the slider - so that everyone can coexist in the game world and no one feels alienated. I'm personally not into PvP, but feel that those who are into it should be able to enjoy the whole game as well. Remember, the developers are trying to attract backers, not drive them away by catering to a single group...

I think you don't understand. Why is player protection in a city not enough? If you're not adventures then don't adventure. RichardLord British” Garriott has spoken positively about open PVP and making moral choices and every player playing in the same world. If you or any other need the game to hold your hand and make everything safe for you then I recommend that you play the Sims instead. Restricting free choice will ruin this game. I have no apologies, your. whole statement is rubbish!o_O

That sounded like open PVP to me. If you want PVE the you need to be on the SMP server. If you want PVP then you need to be on the MMO server. Light and dark seem to only affect NPCs. There are no PVE banned regions.

It sounds to me like they're talking about quest-PvP. What's an SMP server?

Yeah but there is a way to avoid pvp for those who don't wish to. They can still goto everywhere without limitations, as it should be.

You seem very angry. Relax. Take a deep breath.

Ultimately both PVE and PVP can co-exist.

There is no such thing as a SMP server, to my knowledge. There are announced modes (SPO, FPO, OPO), and all modes use the Selective Multiplayer feature to decide who is visible to you, and who is not.

And that is a good thing. They still get the benefits of the "MMO" side as in player vendors and world events. It's win / win for all except PKs who survive on the meek and weak.

I'm not angry instead I'm in a good mood. My angry is that I can't fathom why people want to play this game if they don't like free form adventure games.

Single Player Online, Friend Play Online, Open Play Online.

In any of the online modes, the Selective Multiplayer feature determines who you can see. In SPO, the online server gives you all online terrain/city changes, but doesn't present you with other players. In FPO, you are matched only with players on your Friends List. In OPO, friends are still prioritized, but you have the opportunity to see others, up to the system limitation for the number of people visible to you at any one time (number TBD).

The Selective Multiplayer Function uses other settings to modify visible players, such as any PvP settings you may have set or not set. But there is no SMP server. There is an online server that controls online functions, one of which is Selective Multiplayer.

I believe the answer is this is not a free form adventure game then.

They were all open ended RPG single player except UO, a portion of the backers are here because of those non multiplayer games. They are backing Lord British in hopes to capture the magic they felt in those games. They have as much expectations as us UO folks, now the Devs need to find a happy medium which I think this system will accomplish.
