Looking into the future of Lot Selection

I have no idea why patching is so slow on SOTA today. I hear if you're on Steam is very fast.

 

Steam has a pretty amazing infrastructure. I believe the standard launcher uses BitTorrent, s it doesn't get very fast until a bunch of people are downloading at the same time.

 

That makes sense.

I see the server status still says offline. Are we able to launch the game yet? I'm still on 20% patching.

 

If it starts right on time, it should start in about 5-10 minutes.

 

Yeah, no way I make that. Not a big deal. But it would be nice to have a claim to my city lot (after 13 releases, the most I've gotten to play around with a lot that size has been a few hours in the R14 Q/A test). Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky.

I think this is a good lesson though. I push the patch so close to the launch window? In the future, they should push the patch at least 2 hours ahead. Give people time to download it, then they can seed for everyone else. With P2P, if no one has the patch, then no one can seed, right?

So my download speed of 43 kb per second has to be because of that.

 

So...does this mean people who have jobs most likely be able to claim a lot with their account items since there won't be any left?

 

That's the spot I'm in. I'm at work for another 8 hours...

 

I have a job. It means people that don't have jobs will not have to take off work to claim a lot.

37% - it would've been faster for me to just register the game on Steam. heh

 

I'm resigned to the fact I most likely won't get to try out the lot during this release....maybe, but I bet they go pretty quick.

 

Row and Village lots should be around today.

Town and above? Forget it.

 

Hopefully they bumped the number of lots for this release to accommodate our rewards, has anyone played and noticed more lots than release 13?

 

I have played (on the Q/A builds) and not noticed additional lots. I might be ignorant of where to look though.

 

I was in the server within 20 seconds of it going live for R14, and by the time I got to Owl's Head to get my deed, all the plots were taken! Even checked Kingsport as well. I am so thankful that they will have early lot selection for people who backed the game from the beginning!

 

Yeah, I had to find that out the hard way...

1 hour after the start:

First stop Owl's Head (all city lots taken)
Next up Kingsport (nothing)
Brave Coast (there was 1 City lot remaining) Good luck finding it in that maze.
Ardoris (3 City Water Lots Remaining)

It took me awhile but I finally found one. This should get me through R14 just fine.

I had no problem whatsoever to patch with regular launcher. Strange this is the seeding, it varies quite a lot from 100mb/s to 300k/sek. Okay it should vary some but that seems to much.

For those of you at work and who are concerned, as of now there are currently 342 available lots left in game. Even though Kingsport and Owlshead are full, there are plenty of other lots available in other areas. And remember... nothing you "claim" in the pre-alpha builds (except your Grand Tour rewards of course) is actually carried forward to launch. And at that time, there will be even more lots available in the final game, along with a staggered claim process.

Also keep in mind that inactive claims expire in 7 days, so you never know what might be available later in the R14 test window. And finally, try to remember, this is only one of many testing windows yet to come.

 

here's hoping there will still be some town lots available tonight when i can finally log in!

I really just wanted to finally try it...was one reason to even log in.
