As the title says. Instead of holding down left mouse to charge, just let the meter charge passively and let the left mouse click trigger the charged attack. If you were to hold down the mouse button, let that simulate auto attack. This way, people can charge attacks and manage glyphs at the same time (although you should probably still restrict glyph usage).

Alternative: get rid of the hotbar altogether and make Shroud an action RPG (this will never happen, but I would die a happy man).

I would play the hell out of Shroud Souls . Just sayin'.

I'm in favor of this - holding the mouse down conflicts with glyph management and does more to exhaust hands than provide any element of "skill".

I'm torn... while it would be easier I'm wary of making all charged attacks automatically full power. Would be nice if I could test it out first and see... maybe someone can test in the combat scrum?

I'm not proposing that they always be full power, just that, while in combat, you don't need to hold down the mouse button to charge; the bar will just fill up when you aren't attacking. Gameplay-wise, I don't think it will change much for players other than being a quality-of-life enhancement (unless manual dexterity is inherently part of the mechanic).

The player would still be in charge of timing attacks as it charged past certain thresholds. Other than not fatiguing the player, I'm not sure how this would take less dexterity.

I whole-heartedly agree. I will never use auto-attack (my choice), but holding the mouse button to charge is a bit tough. I already have to set a mouse button to do CTRL+M and constantly flip back and forth while fighting as it is. That I can handle, but the holding a button is just too much. A passive charging will still have you firing too early all time because you want to swing (the enemy is right there!), but will save a lot of headache.
On a side note, there is nothing worse than coming up to a target that is unsuspecting, have a fully charged swing... and then miss. Happens to me 4 out of 5 times. Only related in that I sat there holding a button charging each time.

For me, holding down a button changes the way I handle any control device, making it a bit more challenging to use. Maybe it's just me? I tend to use L+R click to move, since it frees up my left hand for skills :D. A single click is easier for me to time than a hold and release.

Even with trained dex I feel like I miss a lot. It's actually what keeps me from using free attack - those whiffs hurt :(

Yes, it is the enemy that still does not know you are there 'whiff' that hurts the most. I believe those should be a hit regardless, but maybe "spidey sense" and armor absorption mitigates damage, but it should hit!

There is an issue with charged attacks and hit rate. I miss 50% of the time with charged and about 10% with auto.. there is a problem there.

Is it a known thing, or just something you've noticed? If that's an actual bug that could be problematic!

If you can recreate that consistently that sounds like a pretty high priority bug to report!

Haven't looked to see if it is bug reported or not. I just know last time I ran my numbers it was 50% vs 10% on 20 swings.

This idea is absolutely beautiful, and I really hope it gets some traction.

Entered combat? Start charging automatically as if the left mouse button is already being held down. Left click to release. Using a glyph still interrupts and restarts the charge. Hold down left click to auto-attack (this is something I've wanted forrrreverrrr). I love it!!!! So good!!!! :D

To add on to this, Why not have the charge attack act as a pendulum going from 0 to max back to 0 and whenever you press the key it swings. The location of the bar at that moment determines the charge count.

Other wise you know if you don't swing for 3 seconds no matter what your first swing will be a full charge. By having it on a moving slider you have to somewhat coordinate your timing with glyphs as well.

Reminds me of golfing games... How would this make SotA more enjoyable? At this moment, I do not see the allure in this.
