    I stand by my earlier suggestion in another thread: if fundraising will help, put up some in-game items for us to buy (a special off-hand lantern, a collection of framed art for our in-game homes, a mounted sextant, etc.), and I will happily be among the first to buy! The extended timetable is fine, but I'm also willing to pitch in more cash if it helps!

    So, all those who struck out at those complaining about the paper pop-up map, what did you think of the 3d preview in the latest DEV hangout?

    The 3D preview looks to be an improvement in my eyes.

    Of course it looked nice- Stephen, Chris and team are behind it. :) I don't think anyone who liked the paper map and/or supported the dev team in making their own decision about the best way to go thought a 3D map wouldn't "look nice." There were other considerations, which have been talked to death about (and are moot at this point.) It looked pretty. I'm happy that Stephen sounded happy enough with the progress thus far.

    An actual hex map would be fine with me, I like knowing exactly where I'm clicking. Can we toggle to see the hexes? I want to explore everything but I am afraid I would miss something clicking around the edges of a grid I can't see.

    2D map is fine! I DO like the idea of encounters and intetactions though.

    A sextant in the add-on store would be nice! Maybe it can be used to do something nifty on the overland map without being overpowering (perhaps a 1o% speed-increase, 10% decreased chance of unwanted encounters, or something similar?), that would make it an item specifically geared to create funds for the new map! ;)

    What new map, they are continuing the origional, doesn't need funding as it was funded a year ago.

    Honestly I can live with both map types... reminds me of my old UltimaV map. And I think if it comes to priorities the functionality overrides style or visual appearance. It is great that developers pay such attention to community issues!

    I'm still kind of disappointed though because all this talk of the 'look' and not much talk of the functionality :( -which is what really matters IMHO.

    There will be a functioning avatar, functioning roaming beasts, functioning clouds, functioning water. Pan zoom rotate free movement light saber crossbo... Wait that's not right.

    I know there is pan zoom rotate because Stephen did it in the video :p

    I would like to know if there will be weather effects and a day/night cycle on the overland map, too and if so, whether or not this will have an impact on the scenes like finding nightshade only during a full moon rainy night etc.

    Im really glad to hear that the devs have listened to the feedback and I think the new proposed system will have a huge impact on the quality and Ultima feel of the game. Im happy to wait for as long as it takes to get the game we all want, rather than have things rushed to meet deadlines. Thanks Starr ☺

    That was only a mockup and the implementation they attempted was of such quality they abandoned it. It doesn't seem logical they'd resume work on that, and I share ByTor's opinion that:

    The original was 3D kickstarter version of the overworld .001 then next we saw 3D v .01 Then they attempted a paper style 2D
    What they're working on now is 3D version 1.0
