I need the ability to loot a corpse but have it stay in the scene so that 1. the monster doesn't respawn right away, and 2. I can use corpse explosion.

It is working by design. I agree, losing corpses as fodder for my corpse explosion sucks, but just don't loot the entire body (leave the 12 gp's)? Not a real solution I know.. but this is by design. We don't want bodies littering the ground forever, for JUST the one spell.

What if corpse explosion automatically sent the exploded corpse's loot to your inventory? Maybe that is too much autopilot though.

Good grief, Baron.... The list of things that, in your opinion, need changing seems to be growing exponentially of late.
This particular one (choosing between looting and exploding) makes me really scratch my head.....

Corpse Explosion is meant as just another way to damage mobs in the immediate area. As such, it is typically used DURING a mob fight.
Should we have a toggle that says: "Everything stop fighting me so I can loot the corpse and when I'm finished with that, then I'm gonna explode it on you"

A special solution for your current dilemma is not something for the dev's to spend their precious time on, IMO.

Oh, one more thing.... What monster are you fighting that respawns "right away"?

in some areas the elementals, while not right away, do respawn very shortly after looting.
The mine under Hilt, is one such place.

Why is respawn even linked to looted bodies? I'm not generally a fan of respawn at all, especially while a player is present, but linking it to whether a body has decayed or not is... odd. And exploitable.

I don't know, but it seems to be, at least in some places.

I do generally agree, but some mines that do not have mobs respawn are also exploitable for miners. Drag someone down to clear it, then mine the day away with impunity. This could be mitigated by not having the nodes respawn though.

Mobs respawning quickly (less than a couple of mins) is fairly rare. It's a good 5 mins or more for most.

    Also check
Whiteguard Foothills -- maybe it was a bug or just perception but the respawn rate seemed like 1 minute for all MOBs in the scene.

Oh, and to the point of the OP: this was actually suggested for single player offline: bodies that never decay.

I don't know this sounds like an exploit you are asking for based on your preferred skillset .. that @Baron Drocis Fondorlatos will create a thread to have this nerfed if implemented.

(just poking fun at you) :)

Almost always when i first enter a scene the initial respawn is near instantaneous and later it acts normally.

i say wait till the combat is ended one way or another, then have a short duration (under 30 seconds) before the corpse goes byebye.

Items in corpse should scatter on ground after a corpse explosion

That is true. If nobody has killed the spawn in a while - (by that I mean days not minutes) - the 1st spawn after a kill can come quickly. Otherwise, a wait time is always there.

Corpse Explosion is an offensive skill. Waiting till the combat is over to use it seems pretty pointless....

Maybe a frost spell could be used to fix the body into place for longer depending on the level of the skill ? :)

no, that wasn't the point. you are correct by saying that is pointless. my idea was to wait until after the combat is over, plus a set timer, to then trigger a decomposition process, where corpse explosion doesn't work on them, or does less damage as it is decomposing.

i fully agree that a corpse has to be there, to explode...i also think that they should need to be 'fresh' to explode violently...
