Before you buy something from a public or private vendor, take a good look at what you are purchasing. In the linked thread below players reported seeing goods misrepresented on Public Vendors.

One is a simple crafted bag worth nothing touted as a pledge reward (Artisan Tool reward, which is a choice of an unbreakable tool), and the second is a simple worthless book that a player crafted disguised as a valuable Obsidian book of unlearning which can be used to unlearn a skill and recoup the spent experience.

    Buyer beware!

I'd like to add to the list:
    • using blank paper to make "Airship City Home" or similar items that use scrolls as an icon.
Someone posted a screenshot somehwere but I couldn't find it anymore...

Right? In Japan, if you don't speak japanese, there's usually a display case with wax replicas outside to point at. How can you train new people to spot fakes? A tutorial quest? A museum of caveat empor? I was thinking that an analytic that blocks names can be programmed for any combination of caps and numbers, so... maybe it wont be an issue soon. :) Somebody could have just forgot to turn it on.

Sad. So now we have to take advantage of players who don't have much to start out with and who have to work hard for so little. I hope the Dev's can find these fakes and ban the players. And I think this issue is the push I needed. I think online mode for me is dead. I'll wait for offline mode to be completed before I start playing again.

Shades of UO. So many scammers it took while to learn them all but word of mouth was working well

This trade was initiated for test purposes and was only an example of what could happen should a buyer trade sight unseen. As you can see, the Airship City Home is really a Commission-Free Vendor that was renamed. Always always always mouse over the item before you finalize the trade.

If the items had better descriptions, such as an automatic list of what it actually was and better stats and information, it would be a lot easier to avoid the scams (AND to make more informed purchases from vendors in the first place).

In other words, the name in parenthesis is always the actual item name?

Also be careful on selling your items to folks in the trade forums. There are some who will lowball you on the price of the item you have to sell. Do some research and look at what others have sold the item for before you just jump in and sell to the first buyer.

No. You need to go to the Forum. You can't react ingame to it like in UO

Yes, in the example pictures above the Commission-Free Vendor was "Renamed", but what is in the parentheses is what it actually is...the scammers are banking on people not taking the time to read/check the details.
