So now according to socialists logic I'm partial to RMT... you learn some everyday, lol.

How can the lead tech dev of a company not be involved in "money and sales side" in a game that allows metas. It's kind of the most important issue. You have to think things a bit in advance... common.

All this hate against players who kept this game alive makes me nauseous. @Lazarus Long, I totally get you, even if I have no intention to ever profit from this game, it still makes perfect logical sense.

Truth is the game wouldn't be alive without all of you high and consistent backers, so you at least deserve not to be left in the dark when changes that impact the flow of players through your socially enabling hubs/investments will occur. You did not only start the ball, you have been loyal all along, kudos for that. I mean revenue is needed every month, and every month when sales were low, you generous people filled in the gap.

To everyone saying this is all about RMT:

RMT are not the only collectors!
There are also many people that enjoy amassing collections of rare items with no intention of selling them.

There are many ultra popular games that use rare skins, accessories, emotes, etc. Even FPS game like Fortnite and Overwatch. These games have no RMT for these items but trust that these items will truly remain rare drives people to play and collect.

I'll "roll the dice" and say Duke Ezekiel Cooper is right and technically Port can lawyer us!
They can likely claim that only items with exclusive listed directly in the description are binding but as Myrcello illustrates the headings over the rewards are misleading.

As people have pointed out, this is not the first time Port made "exclusive" things available for a larger population, but that doesn't mean we should not acknowledge it when it happens, even if many willingly accept the "changes".

I dont want to worry that "the sky is falling" but I also do not want to have these men that I admire lose their integrity.

Edited to avoid any misinterpretation that could cause moderation.

I like how this is only 14 pages now that RMT'ers are getting stung. I mean lol "omg they are selling for $30 (which is still a silly price) something I used to be able to sell for over a hundred!".

You're just going to have to suck it up. =P

Again, my disclaimer before I comment that I'm not an RMT person. Indeed, I think RMT is a pox on modern video games.

What's going to be interesting is how this, and potential future occurrences like this, affect the game's health. It's already in not-so-great shape and if enough RMT types are annoyed, I forsee less money coming in.

Over the time i saw more and more commission free vendors in game. For my senses there are so much in game that the normal vendor becomes are rarity. Also many people i talk to have started to replace their normal crafting tables with the expert ones.
Items that are exclusive are usually also rare in game. Both, the CF vendor and the crafting tables, are not.
Port. do not have started to remove the rarity/exclusivity from this items. They added the items to the store after this.

Also, the CF vendor has become a must on the market. This was not the case when i have started with the game.
If both where exclusive/rare selling prices where not based on commision free vendors, instead they where based on the normal vendor. But the norm has become the CF vendor long before they added the items to the store last Friday.

I'am missing the indestructible tools. I have learned that tool usage costs are not calculated in selling prices, so i guess prosperity tools are the norm now?

I would buy them all from the store if offered. I also think the larger houses/town lots are cost prohibitive to some of us. I would buy more if the price was half.

I’m sure newer players would have stayed longer if items were more available and a little cheaper.

And how would they feel when those items suddenly became free for the next group of players?
And their special limited time items that were a trophy and memory from a particular time were suddenly available again and meaningless?

Sure the new group may be happy , but I see diminishing returns.

I m not of this opinion.
I m one of thos who ve spent a lot on this game (lord founder since the kickstarter and spent a few thousand in the addon store) and I ve never seen the money I put in the game as something I ll eventually recoup, or make money with. I honestly think that if prices are brought down quite a bit , we would have a lot more players and the game would make a lot more money. But I understand how players who ve put a lot of money ingame would not be happy. The devs would have to be open about it and explain their reasoning. And some items you want to keep at a relatively high price . But still , take the example of a city deed that costs 1050$ and then you still have to pay 378 cotos for a years rent (a bit more than 300$ in cotos from the addon store). How is this even remotely reasonable? Same logic (to a lesser extent) goes for town and village deeds. We can t expect the game to thrive with these kinds of price . Just my opinion of course , but personally , i think the addon store prices should be about the same as what these deeds are selling in the player marketplace. I think this would encourage the more casual players and general public to invest more of their time and money in this game, and generally give a better reputation all over the internet than what sota now has.

I agree with all your reasoning except this :

If you buy a deed for $1050 and, then, the price is reduced to $390, sure new people will be happy (and they will eventually be attracted to the game IF the game is worth it). I also can understand that you didn't seen the $1000 as something that you would recoup (that was our case before... well, before things that I am not allowed to say here) but still, you paid $610 more than if you bought the deed many months later... while you are one of the guy who allowed the game to exist at first.

For Portalarium, the price doesn't matter as much as it does for you, because they can generate as much deeds (or virtual items) as they want with no cost.

I did not spend money on this game as an investment either. I had great admiration for the people involved and their previous games. I was enjoying watching this whole process. As time went by, I upgraded my pledge and purchased other accounts in my enthusiasm to support this team and their game.

I also really liked the idea that they were creating things to commemorate and reward players for contributing and being a part of the process at certain periods of time.
Everytime I see someone on a npc town water lot, I appreciate their contribution and feel they deserve to have that water lot even though I can not. Soon, when npc water lots go on sale for everyone, it will evoke quite a different sentiment.

I completely understand your reasoning, but i dont agree.

I already gave you the example of a brand new iphone earlier. You buy an iphone X when its new, and pay top dollars. Then the cost is slowly reduced over time. that happens with every Product there is, Phones, computers, cars etc etc etc.

Why would a game be any different?

The IphoneX will get old, eventually rusted or dysfonctional. Virtual items won't get old.

The IphoneX will get obsolete when a new generation will come out while the virtual items value depends on a whole environment (the game itself, which could last for twenty years if it were as good as Ultima Online).

Virtual goods are not products. You have a licence to use those. Those are not manufactured. Those can be duplicated infinitely and the only limit depend on a totally different logic than common scarcity and production limits, obsolescence, aging and so on...

Comparaison n'est pas raison, as we say in french. But I understand why you make the parallel between those two cases.

Yes I know that is the whole problem with this situation. What if i make the assumption that the only way this game could actually become profitable and attract a lot of new players is to drastically reduce addon store prices? Just an assumption, but I don t think it s too far from the truth.

A game is not attractive because it's suddenly cheap for everyone. The exemple of Apple, two messages ago, shows how consumering is not a matter of high or low prices.

If Shroud had to have a larger public, it would be the case long time ago, I think.

Why would you think that people will spend here $39 for a CF vendor when it's the price for a whole different game ? The pay wall is lowered, but it's still skyhigher than most of the other games out there. And I won't speak about quality, because I don't want to sound rude, frankly.

    This is where I disagree
Yes it will be more attractive.
One of the strengths of this game is the housing. Having housing and bigger lots pass from insane prices to still very expensive (considering this is just a video game), to something a majority of players would willingly pay, is a big plus for this games revenue and player population.
Same goes with cf vendors. This is a fun aspect of the game. But to be competitive , you need to have a cf vendor. And the price for having one was just too much. I think paying basically the price of a game expansion (at 31$), for a cf vendor through the addon store is much more appealing to the general gaming public. Especially when the alternative before was buying a bundle through the addon store northward of 500$ or going through the marketplace and paying 120$. So for the health of the game , I think this is a good move. But more is needed.

Let's the future decide for us then. I won't lie : I already know that you have very few chances to win this bet, and that's something about experience and common sense. But well, my wallet pray for you to be right :D

    This is the best analogy.
