This is another time someone posts that their should be an oprion for one or the other....we have gotten to the point that any idea is being brought up as being optional. This is going to add a lot of time and angst to the design. Either you have it or you don't.

This option is already in the game.
In the game, click the settings wheel at the top right, you will easily find it in the list.
When I tested it some weeks ago it worked fine.
I do think it has been there a long time.

I must agree. Lord British please revisit this. It allows for more descriptive feelings in the world without overloading the staff for animations. For key NPC conversations perhaps animations combined with the descriptions would act as a reinforcing influence of the NPC's state.

While text describing actions is one thing, text describing tone of voice is completely different. The impression that I get is that all types of descriptive text are being avoided, which I hope is not the case.

Heck, I could use sub-text in real life sometimes.

Maybe a compromise would be to show descriptive texts for those animations, expressions and tones of voice that are not covered by actual animations of the characters... This way, basic animations like waving or crying could be shown as actual animations but more complex things like "staring menacingly" or "growling in a deep voice" would be descriptive text.

The strong focus in SotA on chat text means your attention will be on the text not on the NPC's graphical model. Given that, it seems appropriate to include the descriptions in that text.

Seems like a bit of a disconnect to, on one hand emphasize the chat text interaction but then on the other, try and avoid descriptions in chat text.

That single sentence completely sums up the entire approach to design of this project, since the start, for me.

    Cheers.
