BTW, I just added a link to this thread to our taming doc. We'll be reopening the design discussion of that in the next few months so feel free to continue to dump ideas here!

The breeding system implemented in Final Fantasy 7 for Chocobos was amazing. I hope to see something similar to that in SotA....

I would like to see taming of insects (Beetles, Scorpions, Prey Mantis etc) - we could train them and have them fight other players' insects - we could have a cage that we could carry in our inventory - we would have to forage for insect food and have mechanisms to make our insects stronger.

This could become a cool mini game

Really excited to hear this I think once it's time to work on taming you can make it amazing!

the taming collar is a cool invention by the devs. I don't know if anybody mentioned this anywhere or not, but it would be nice if we could summon our pet by clicking on the taming collar in our inventory, and recall the pet later and it turns into the taming collar in our inventory. It would be nice if we could name the taming collar or at least the collar takes on the name of the pet.

Maybe some people might not like that system, but I personally think it's a nice way of organizing our pets. Maybe the act of using the collar can expend focus and it opens a gate that teleports the pet to you to make it more immersive? That's just a thought.

to follow up on this idea about the teleporting/gate collars in our inventory...

What if we had to pay a stables fee for each pet that we own. Rather than limit the number of pets we have, let them charge a rent fee for the space it takes up in the stables.

My mom has a horse, and she pays rent for the stable it stays at. It's the same rent whether she has the horse with her or if she has it in the stables. If she owned 100 horses she would have to pay rent for 100 horses.

This would limit people's pets, and provide a gold sink. Then when you need to summon your pet you can expend focus to summon the pet through a gate. This would also lower your focus and take some time so you can't just summon a dragon instantly in the middle of combat and still have all your focus available too. The pet would have to walk through the gate and get its bearings and then enter the battle. This could also be an action that could possibly be interrupted like interrupting any other spell in combat.

Bouncing of Isaih's idea and thinking of Torchlight 2

It would be cool if our pets served a functional role in addition to combat -

If we have a weight/space limit a character can carry - could our animals wear packs to help us carry items (I know folks have mention pack mules)

But I'm talking about any of animal - a dog, cat, bear etc ... the smaller the animal the smaller the space allotment per pack

    - There could be a market of pet packs just like I expect there one to be for collars

    - And can we say pet armor :)

Heh, little Kitty Knapsacks! Oh the tailors will love this!
All you unity 3D folks get ready to start designing, I don't think there are kitty packs in the Unity store.

The only thing I don't like about dressing up our pets in armor is this:

This opens up the idea of craftables for our pets. Maybe a pet can carry stuff with a pack, but what if your avatar is a grandmaster tailor and is able to craft a bag of holding for your pet. Also what about crafting armor for a bear etc etc. These items should all be crafted by us.

Oh I fully expected them to have decorative items in the shop for not just our avatar and houses but our pets as well. This is a huge money maker in real life and can be one for SotA as well.
