Player Owned Towns Update: Scope, NPC Buildings, Icons, etc.

    What about monuments and blessings in PvP enabled PoTs or NPC towns? Yet again, this is another opportunity for big meta ideas in PvP. One idea could be for a greater blessing power, you must maintain and protect your monument with fortifications and defenses or risk it being destroyed by invading forces or sieges.

    All very good suggestions but as I mentioned we are trying to keep the scope of these under control for Episode 1. That means the number of buildings and associated NPCs is fixed for Episode 1. We will not be supporting variations and upgrades on that.

    What would the functions be surrounding guards. Would they actually protect anyone and fight? If they did fight what would trigger them? For example would they be viable in a PvP town?

    They will function exactly like guards in regular towns (a system we have not yet implemented). :)

    Does that mean we can't swap out Humans for Undead or Elves?

    i already discussed this with you some months ago.

    NPCs are not just gold sinks. On the top of my head, they are used for 3 things for me that can't be replaced:

    1) Crafting supplies that are only availible from NPCs ( salt and such )
    2) selling of things that players dont want to make money.
    3) Trainers ( even though they are said not to be availible at this time )

    POT permissions?

    For a strong town I want to give away power and share lot locking and unlocking permissions. Will this be addressed? How will towns stay vibrant for 5 years with dictators? Shared power is strength and health.

    We do plan to get some permissions sharing (like our current housing system) in for PoTs along with some succession rules like we want to do for Guilds.

    please clarify: a holdfast has to choose between having a monument/blessing and having any functional npc building at all?

    One of the things I like most about the dev team is that they really listen. But when they decide something, conjecture and "what if's" do not instantly change their minds.

    I think this is about the 10th time I've seen the devs double down on their decisions. I like that.

    Ok understanding there nothing is set in stone.. if player towns start going in around R17-18.. is there a rough guestimate at the rate towns are expected to start appearing in-game? I can imagine trying to get at least one or two in each release once more details are worked out.

    I remember UO factions had tax options, etc. Things like setting your towns laws and policies would be cool. Especially if, as said above, you could choose to rule as a Baron or have a town council with votes etc.

    I like the idea of residents having a town title and being able to participate in town politics and vote in leaders for different areas. Would be a game in itself ^^
