So far, we've seen swords, daggers, axes, maces and hammers since R1, but polearms (and bows) have yet to make an appearance. This thread is for you to give your opinion on what polearms should go in game, because its likely that the dev's are working on more weapons. Using UO as a reference, here is a start to the thread:
Double-Bladed Staves would be interesting too, but I'm not sure if these would qualify as polearms.

Glaives. :) Though depending on your definition a "bladed staff" can call into this category. The variety I favor could be better described as "sword on a stick". think bladed staff but closer to half & half. (Those are fun!).

Not of the particular style I'm thinking of. I guess they're not so traditional. My own glaive was made with a Viking blade and axe handle. Which is pretty hefty.. but the traditional glaive is apparently much longer with a single edged blade (which can have a variety of styles).

My glaive is more like the bladed staff in UO only with a shorter haft and longer blade.. but it doesn't look like that fits the traditional definition. Here's a decent look at the more traditional model.

I would definitely like to see something like that in SotA. UO's Stygian Abyss has me under the impression that a glaive was a kind of boomerang.

Apparently that alien skuriken thingie in Krull was called 'glaive'.. oh and there's a Japanese action hero (at least I assume it's a good guy?) named 'Glaive' *shrug* It's just a pity that if glaives do make it in that the animations would be limited. I could spend all day in a mocap studio with that weapon alone.

Crowd sourced motion capture? Sounds state of the art!

If only. I'm afraid that'd be a little too complicated to pull off. Unless it was all done at the same studio and specific to how the characters in SotA are rigged. Then I imagine there are all sorts of other things they'd need done a certain way.. such as starting stance and whatever else. Not that I really know much about mocap specifically.. but you'd need to be able to apply the data to a SotA character easily.

Still, I'm sure it'd be rather fun to do some mocap.. especially doing melee animation.

What about a battle hammer... a small hammer on the end of a staff? It was called a Dum-Dum in Ultima 9.

I would never allow such a thing to be called a glaive. A movie prop perhaps but not a glaive. It wasn't even a very good movie imo despite having Liam Nelson in it.

A polearm that you can swing would be more exciting to watch so that cancels out tridents and spears, but either way a variety of polearms are a sure things. I'm much more interested in hearing about morning stars.

This is what you call a serious overreaction to a lame joke.

No that's what you call a not-so-serious over reaction to a lame joke. :)

The super serious look on your avatar made it seem much fiercer.

It is a rather humorless expression isn't it? It was a hot day. :)

Ideally, I would like the polearms which are the most distinctive -- pike, bardiche, glaive, halberd, and also something chosen between corseque/ranseur/partisan (these would be considered variants of "three grayned staves"). The partisan is a late weapon, occurring in the 1700s, but there's no reason why it can't be in a Medieval fantasy setting, from what I know.

And look at this very beautiful decorative design,

The real question is, besides the novelty of the cosmetic differences, what differences would these weapons have in game?
