POLL: Does Shroud Need Factions? Does Shroud need UO guild Style Warfare?

Its a pretty simple idea. We need something to rally around and we need the ability for single loner players to join behind a faction banner for pvp. I am making a multi vote poll so you can vote if you want the UO style guild warfare also. The UO style guild warfare let you war guilds one on one without any other pvp people joining in, unless they have an alliance. You can quit the war anytime you want also. So that is the jist of it let me know what you think.

They screwed themselves by having people place lots and POTs before adding any kind of factions. Because it essentially means that geography can't be a part of PvP which makes everything a big mess.

One can only hope that they have some big secret project which actually thought through control points, regional castles, and economies, because otherwise this is a big mess too.

Otherwise they're stuck more or less turning the existing map into "trammel" and making a new ep2 map better designed for PvP. There are no doubt hundreds of examples of games with some red/green/blue fortress, some thing in the center, and a bunch of objectives which flip flop back and forth.

But it will be really, really hard to make this meaningful to people. These forums have spend years getting PVPers and PvEers to fight eachother, instead of the synergy the develop in other games. I'm happy that there are soldiers or farmers or fast food workers or hundreds of other jobs that I don't have or want because they make my life better. But that hasn't happened in this game.

 

We definitely need factions, and it should not be an issue learning from the implementation in UO which was very good.

There is a guild warring feature in Shroud already, does it work differently? I assumed it was a war between two guilds, that was private for those two guilds?

but I only just don't think shroud needs factions just yet. It'll need factions eventually though, but I just don't think that we should have factions until launch day. That way when all the newcomers come to check out the finished product, there'll still be people who are willing to help show them the ropes, rather than big squads who really don't need anyone else which would make the nubs all feel like they're just in the way or spectating.

 

Guild wars are different in this game. Unless it has changed when you flag for war against another guild, you also flag yourself for open pvp to the rest of the world. So you are at war against your enemy team and open pvp also. There is no one on one war really

 

I voted above and would be very interested in large scale PVP but can the current infrastructure support it without massive lag?

 

I think the tech will be there eventually. They have had many plyers in scenes already but yes the lag is horrific (at least for me) right now. Chris has stated that next release they are improving optimization somewhere around 30%. So if the optimization keeps getting better and better then we possibly can have more people in scenes to fight.

 

I voted yes to factions. I think a nice twist though would be one where a player's virtue is taken into consideration where factions are concerned. Certainly allow players to declare their allegiance, but depending on virtue status - player stats could be affected (+/-) depending on what faction the player chooses.

 

like council of mages with an int boost, thats reasonable i guess so long as nothing in combat is too OP. otherwise one faction will always have everyone for the type of boost

 

It could even be something like the blessings system that Portalarium is working on. Not exactly sure how it's going to work - but it's coming.

 

I would rather us have something to fight over, VS you are team red I have to kill you...

lol i was the only dissenting vote so far. I want something NEW in this game - it has enough uninspired uo hooks.
