I suspect you'll be more disappointed than I will.

I actually do take offense to the drinking in game. And at the events. And at the general acceptance of drinking behavior/culture. I also know I am a bit of a minority on those views. I would advocate either opening this up by allowing other substances, such as smoking pipes, to be allowed as well. But, where do we draw this line?

I don't believe we need to censor but I believe people should respect an individuals right to not be harassed. I am on the side of allowing offensive content. Just drink more, and read less, if it is such a problem... imho.

I have little skin in the game anymore because of authoritarian ideology. If the game sinks its not because of me thats for sure.

Well this is an interesting topic.

If people on this forum find the simple term of "care bear" offensive, why are others now dismayed at the notion that people may find sexually explicit writings offensive? Those who find the former offensive and not the latter probably need to do a lot of inward thinking.

My view there are two issues:
    1) What is acceptable by gaming standard
    2) What someone may or may not find offensive

In terms of what is acceptable, it really depends on what boundaries the developers are prepared to operate to......It is not unusual for players to dance around naked, and doing little provocative belly dances (each to their own).....or even to talk about bring cannibalism into play. This is a sandbox, limits should be stretched within reason. Is writing a saucy book unreasonable given where SotA is? The answer has to be no.

In terms of what people find offensive.........well people reap what they sow. An overly sensitive community is what SotA is, everyone is offended by something......those who 'offend' become the outcasts to ensure preservation of the status quo, this is even promoted by Portalarium themselves, wrapping a precious dwindelling community in cotton wool.

This is what the community has asked for, this is what the community gets. There should be no analysis, no complaints..........unless you really want change.

Yes, I certainly open myself up to that kind of criticism. I'm not a fan of strawmen though. Which is exactly what someone saying "well then we should get rid of the sky then because someone might be offended" is.

"I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description ["hard-core pornography"], and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it ...."

Justice Potter Stewart, Jacobellis v. Ohio

We players will always be unable to precisely define what's offensive. But rest assured Port will exercise its right to enforce terms of the EULA as they deem fit. Personally I've never known Port to over-reach in this area. If anything they err on the side of inclusion of controversial material. So if someone gets busted/suspended/monitored/banned, you can bet they strayed past any grey areas into the abyss of offensiveness.

Yes, as I seriously doubt they want an Adult ESRB Rating.

Quick update that game specific role-playing themes like the Church of the Darkstar does not necessarily apply to this rule against "Religious Zealotry". I was getting at real world references and other points that go against the game's spirit. It's all about context :).
