We have standing signs, but they need illumination during darker hours and the obvious choice in most situations is a streetlamp (unless there is some wall that allows hanging something). But this ends up requiring you put a pole next to a pole, generally in front of it, which looks ugly, or above it, which is often hard to pull off.

The next obvious idea would be to attach the hanging sign to a streetlamp. But not only is this not possible, but if it were it would lead to clumsy results. The streetlamps aren't tall enough, and generally they're badly shaped for adding a sign, even you could.

Also, there is the same type of issue with hanging signs. In order for them to be well illuminated, the light source has to be directly in front of the sign, and there might not be room for this if there is little space.

The right solution it seems to me would be imitation from real life, which is lanterns attached to signs, done so the lantern hangs above the sign.

There are two ways I see this can be done, either a decoration which is a combo, for both the standing sign and the hanging sign, where the lamp is attached just to the end of the sign.

Or, there can be a hanging lamp designed as a shop lamp, in the same style as the shop signs.

And then both can be affixed to a post, along with other things, such as street signs, or other things one might attach to a post.

That's a great idea @redfish. Also as I always say to everyone 'Don't forget to point at signs as you hurry by'. In Shrouds this is how you read them.

So, I managed to create a hack.

The first is a stack of four 1Wx4Hx4L Dark Rough Stone Rectangle Blocks scaled at 50%, and the second is a stack of three Tall Corner Stone Walls scaled at 50%. The advantage of the latter is its thinner, but its harder to scale the light (Ornate Iron and Glass Wall Light) larger on it. There are limited spots where you can place the lanterns.

These can of course be fitted against buildings, too, where the space is available, and it will blend into the building if the building is stone.
