This looks like fun. Sadly I won't be able to make it due to logistical and money constraints (I would need to fly over from Australia) however happy to donate some money to lower costs.

Seriously? That's reaching. Sometimes people are just good people. Please come join. I will buy you two beers of choice and I have nothing to do with the event.

After reading this and going to look at this.

    https://www.gofundme.com/SotACon2016

Wasn't the goal originally $15,000 now it's only $1. What gives?

    Now I'm really curious.

    Comments? Anyone?

I suggest we keep the trolling out of this (and all) threads everyone. This is a simple (and going to be fun) fan event that has no room for bickering conspiracy nonsense, so leave it out of the discussion. I've already had to remove offending posts. If you have any questions about these actions, feel free to PM me. Thanks.

There are only two times in my life I left my family behind to go somewhere besides work forced

    1. Phish Coventry in VT
    2. Dinner with Lord British in NY

    This will be number 3.

There has been only one time since 16 that I wore a costume and that was for my daughter at Animazment. This will be the second time.

Please come and see me be a fool, better yet join me. :)

I can help answer this. The original GoFundMe was programmed for $15K. However later, funds were received via the registrations/donation tickets including the VIPs (not through GoFundMe). That number could not be added into GoFundMe so the goal there needed to be reduced. I believe we are not using GoFundMe for donations anymore. We did not want the $15K goal to remain on GoFundMe and it looked like the Con was only 17% funded, which is not true.

So now, for those who cannot attend but want to donate, there is PayPal on the Register page. For those who can attend, they donate through the Tickets on the Register page.

    http://east.sotacon.org/register

That's my best understanding. I hope this helps a little.

Good question, I hope that the organizer(s) of this do have some amount to compensate for the time invested. I don't think we've hit the 30k goal or anything, but it'd be nice to think that there might be enough leftover to cover their hotel room and gas.

(I didn't see anyone using the Shroud of the Avatar name to make a profit, I did see the Shroud of the Avatar name used to make a fan led, fan attended, event. With freaking Lord British and Darkstarr and others attending. Awesome.)

Is there a guest list anywhere yet? Would be interesting to see who's already signed up!

I have registered, bought at ticket for myself and my husband + voluntold him to bring some of his board games. I am bringing my box of Talisman in hopes of being able to play my second game of it ever. (It still has that new in box smell even though I have had it for over 5 years!) I will also bring my Myth board game that I backed on Kickstarter. I can voluntell my husband to bring some of his board games that he backed. He's dying to try them out if there is any interest.

I am so excited. This makes up for having to sit the last 2 GenCons out!

Yes, bring board games, card games etc. as there will be tables in one of the conference rooms and in the Hospitality Suite for that purpose.

    That would be nice, yes!

Yet, I don't think we can release a guest list for this SotACon. We didn't have an Opt-In choice for people to add their information to a public guest list. Good idea though!

Maybe next SotACon that option can be added to the registration system when we collect badge information.

Sadly, I blew all of the vacation money I budgeted for the rest of the year at DragonCon :( But I did contribute toward the original GoFundMe campaign o_O and hope that everyone has a wonderful time :D

Looks like a fun event. So this is privately funded. Is portalarium helping pay for this also?

My understanding: Portalarium is *not* funding any of this. See page 1 of this thread:

    About SotA Con

SotA Con is entirely planned and funded by the players, for the players and developers....

Aye. I was just wondering if the where going to start launching advertising at this event. Would be good timing being its slightly ahead of actual launch. Good time to start promoting. :)

Correct. Because Shroud of the Avatar is a crowdfunded project, we didn't feel it right to spend the backers money in even this way, as much as we would have liked to do so. However, the SotA Con organizers were gracious enough to cover the developers travel expenses in order to attend. By extension, we thank you community for attending the event, which makes all of this, and our attendance, possible.

I was telling my non-gamer husband about this and he's encouraging me to go. I've never been to any kind of conference. Ever. I've never worn a costume since I was a kid going trick-or-treat. I'm not afraid to travel alone. I do that more than travel with my road warrior hubs and go see my kids in another state by myself couple times a year. So I'm thinking about it. I was bummed to see the VIP tickets were sold because I would probably love that.

    Thoughts?

Come, have a great time, put faces to names which makes gaming with them so much more fun IMHO.

Yes a great guy, we had him actually autograph the games for us. Will be interesting to try it out!

Did all the registrations from the GoFundMe site transfer to this new registration system? We registered earlier via that and we don't want to miss SotA Con. Thanks.
