I know you're fairly well known on the Forums. I've seen some of your posts. But we've never "talked" before, nor have we ever met in game.

When I signed in to the game last night, I saw that you had friended me, and I friended you back. Then I went to my POT and found the book you left for me in the chest. Writer to writer, I figured.

But, you really should know that giving a book with explicit sex in it to someone you don't know isn't really a good idea. In fact, it's a bit creepy.

At least say "hi" before the next one. o_O

I was thinking it might be nice to have a way to "rate" books. This could probably be used with a parental control system too.

Of course, this would be an honor system, and kids should be supervised when playing this game. Still, the additional tools would be helpful, imo.

Well, the sex was integral to the plot, so there is that. ;)

Flashback to over 2 years ago, when many Kickstarter backers warned Portalarium that ALL user created content needed visibility filters (or a global toggle option, at least).
Guess they figured abuse demonstrated over the past 20 years in other online games would never happen in Shroud. Oh hey, look, it has happened.
This might look like my regular face, but I assure you, it's my shocked face. o_O /grumble

And just so the white knights don't ride in and say " it does no good being critical without being constructive " here's the solution to this issue:
All user created content needs visibility filters, or a global toggle option, at least.

Instead of a global toggle - maybe a global bounty system?

I'd never say that to someone that is providing actionable feedback (solutions) and you are.

The problem with your solution however is that it doesn't work unless Portalarium is cataloging all the content prior to it being available.

What would work however is going to a book store where you could trust the people that worked there to recommend books to buy and not to buy. I know of two such store's. @Womby @Vyrin

Can you please contact me with details of the incident... while I am only partly understanding, I want to make sure you know you can reach out if it was something serious that we need to further look into.

    Thanks Cianna

It's amazing what some people think is ok.
I would send a note to support and let them know that this was not ok.
Maybe the player has done similar things to other people, and been warned.
Maybe they'd get a ban and not be able to do it again.

@Berek If Port wants the name of the book author, or the book itself, I will gladly give you that information. But I think most of this conversation should be public for the sake of other women on these forums. What is it you "only partly" understand? Are you asking how explicit the contents were?

Agreed, I would be extremely upset if someone randomly placed a X rated book for my hypothetical daughter to read. As you said the person did not know you.

I support this course of dialog 100%

Stuff like this freaks me out - and if I had my way, it wouldn't be handled with kid gloves. I honestly wouldn't know how to deal with something like this from the perspective of a RP game... (will things like this be par for the course?). When my oldest daughter was harassed like this in her first year of college I went straight to the security department on campus.

I figured someone would play this card, and try to use "the burden" as an excuse for inaction. As all other games have clearly demonstrated over the past 20 years... (this is not a new problem)

All user supplied content. All user created content. All.
    Examples of user supplied content?
    Two ways of describing it.

First one? Whitelist mode. Anything supplied directly by Portalarium is shown by default. Everything else, not shown.
Second way. Blacklist mode. Anything not supplied directly by Portalarium is selectively blocked. What would that be?
    Pet names.
    Vendor names.
    Book titles.
    Book content.
Crests. Any image uploaded or created.
    Lot decorations.
    House decorations.
And anything else that players create, supply, design, place, or make that is persistent and can be viewed by other players.
All of the above, and more, is abuse-able, and will be abused until such visibility toggles are put in place. It's the general public, graffiti is guaranteed.

Put another way, there's no cataloging to be done. Portalarium already knows exactly what they are supplying for 'content' and exactly what users are supplying for 'content'.
And imho? This issue is going to become extremely public, visible, global, posted on social media, and negative starting on July 28th, because it's been ignored not addressed up to this point.

Good on Berek for jumping on damage control, but that's a tiny bandage on a gaping wound, imo.

We don't have the facts of what's in the book, what was displayed, etc., in order to understand the situation and act upon it. If you could send us that information privately, that would be appreciated.
