Actually, it would be fun if scrying required something like a lock of hair from the person you were looking for, and you would have to hire a rogue to obtain it for you.

this reminds me of the communication crystals in UO...gotta create a thread about them. They were way cooler than using IRC or skype...

Yet another example of a thread which should have been moderated long ago.

Time to lock this stuff up when we are just posting wiki articles and MTG card pics guys. Seriously nothing has been added to the discussion, come on already.

Or perhaps a "forensic investigator" that could look at a "crime" scene and find clues, such as the lock of hair, or a fingernail, or something.

Actually, many did. I've seen some interviews with people that were part of the pre-Trammel UO dev team talking about PK activity generating an awful lot of support requests. Even RG himself has told tales of using his Lord British character to handle "harassment".

It's due to the laugh style in your previous quote. Brazilians are (in)famous for using something very close to that in chat.

*heh* Then were it my game, I'd just set up a filter that automatically deletes any support request with the words "keeps, pk, me" in them. :p

In case you are being serious: PK was also the main reason for players to leave pre-trammel UO, and that is with GMs helping curb harassment, including PK-related harassment. Trammel wasn't added just to spite PKers, it was added because UO had a big problem with PK activity driving players away, and all other attempts to control and reduce PK activity had failed.

I don't doubt it. But I also believe there's a niche of players (this niche includes myself, obviously) that believes that players that would quit a game over PK's aren't the kind of players I'd like to play with anyway. This is, of course, with the assumption that there is a way that the players themselves can mitigate the PK issue. This is where the "bounty" and "bounty hunter" concept comes in that I've mentioned before. If you make PKing something that puts the PKers on the run, they don't have TIME to sit around and repeatedly camp someone's body. I'm all about a game that polices itself (or more specifically, giving the players the power to police it).

Well, with how SotA will be set up, PKs will have plenty of targets and against folks that actively WANT to PvP. This prevents the players that do NOT want to PvP from leaving the game. If eventually they want to try their hand at PvP, they can choose that option.

Mind you, I'm for PvP and enforcement by the players, not necessarily an NPC automated system. I've read of something like this in EVE, which works for space (warp speed?) but how would it in SotA (magic?)? UO did have teleporting insta-kill guards but that's a tad extreme but necessary back then.

It's my thread. I made it. I can post a picture of Dark Ritual if I want to.

Also, discussing voodoo magic and it's applications in a game is perfectly valid.

It's funny you say nothing's been added, while adding nothing to the discussion. :)

Also, locking threads sort of prevents anything from ever being added again, so.... uh...

UO is a perfect example of "players taking matters into their own hands" not working out in the long run. People get tired of playing Vigilante Justice for one reason or another. People take breaks from the game. They go try other games. They work on crafting. They get jobs/married/etc. You can't always guarantee that the Player Police are going to be around.

Imagine if all the police went on vacation for a bit. They just made a movie about where crime is legal for like 24 hours.

    That went well, right?

Well said. Barging into people's threads, demanding they should be locked...wow!

Such a lovely card it is, too. I have 4 of them in my Vampire/Bloodthirst deck. Turn 3 6/6 Bloodlord of Vaasgoth? I think so! Turn 4 9/9 Bloodlord of Vaasgoth? It has hapened. ;)

In any event, while it's your thread let's not divert the topic too much. I got a kick out of that, though. hehe

Although this isn't the fist time something like that has been mentioned in this thread, so nothing new, it is a valid point and why I could run unchallenged in UO and lul at all the "anti-PKs" idea of resistance.

The cities will need, and will have guards that attack criminals you can bet all your mom's money on that kids. That is the bottom line. Nuff said.
