More like 5 minutes rather than 15 minutes.

As a means of weaning players off zoning too much, the 15 minute timer is certainly being effective where I am concerned. I now walk on the overland map much more frequently than I used to. I haven't made up my mind whether this is a good thing or not in the testing stage of the game development.

And zoning is more like a alpha/beta tool

I don't want to be weaned off it, but I can see how it will help with much abuse and where it benefits the game to have it on a timer. Most games have some sort of rcall teleport spell with timers. Like SWTOR has a once a day teleport to a major city to sell and train. If you are a paid member, which I'm not then of course you can get others perks. I am hoping we will have something on timers, just crossing my fingers for details that are right for the game. I don't really want to debate it but, just sayin imo. :)

This change crippled a lot of my activities, where I ping-pong among two lots, or among my house and the decoration target I'm working on. Zoning back to fetch that item I forgot was almost natural. Now the time spent walking back and forth is not active game time, it's just a waste. Now I have to evaluate every trip: there's really no content I can enjoy between my home and Paxlair Castle basement: I made that trip so many times I think I dug a small trench with my feet...

    Ah well.

I'd love a dynamic system, where the actual cooldown (from 5 minutes to, dunno, 180?) is calculated based on the distance of the /zone.

You cross the entire world? Your cooldown for the next use is three hours or so. Regional economies are safe.

You just zone between two very close points? Your cooldown is kept at a minimum, 5 minutes top. Personal sanity is safe.

    Win/win in every conceivable way.

I think it is annoying, but it is a good thing, because it forces players to experience the annoying travelling that will be part of the game.

If anything needs to adjust, it is not zoning timer, but boring travelling within scene and across the map. And the grind required to do anything...

I'll bring up prioritizing the real fix which is getting the real fix in so we can remove what is essentially a GM command that everyone got used to having! Real replacement is still under some debate internally but will likely be a spell that requires a reagent of modest value. Also, more built in fast travel modes need to come on line as well, such as more sewers and lunar rifts.

I love this response. I think that's exactly what is needed. I think the measure of success would be if "most" people end up using the other forms of travel for long distances, and reserve the "teleport" spell for special occasions - that's probably where the goal of all this should be. I don't think we want people just avoiding the overland map completely, or using teleporting as a way to bypass everything with a challenge component (Control Points, Shardfalls, etc...)

There needs to be a balance where at the end of the day a person deciding what to use for travel isn't going to avoid walking from PaxLair to Vengeance (for example). There's no need to teleport or use a boat or a moongate for that. It takes less than 30 seconds to walk there.

Take zone away now :) Then they will appreciate the future implementations of the game mechanics. :D

And then after three fizzles it teleports you to an Ophelia infested level of Despair stuck in isometric view... :)

I can't speak for others but I personally play computer games to have fun. Having to run for 10 or 15 minutes, especially just to get home, is not my idea of fun.

To be honest, with the sped up overland travel, I hardly notice the zone timer issue anymore.
