Poll: Adult rated towns/basements in SotA? [UNOFFICIAL]

seems to be only a small but vocal minority that seem to think this is necessary. There is a small vocal group (in the majority group) that is appalled at this. Then there seems the rest of the majority seem that think this is silly waste of time and resources. This is the last I will post on the matter I'm not following this thread anymore. Cry as you all may.

**After personal review of my previous post, I see no problem using the words I did. It was very clear what I was discussing and I clearly represented a view point held by many people.

 

It's ironic to think that western culture is so heavily informed by ancient Greece and Rome with all this worry over sex.

 

What has gone wrong with society if they think sex in a game is appalling but graphic murder is not?

Why is it ok to spend development dollars on bloodshed and looting, which many will never participate, but not ok to spend development on relationships that cause no harm to anyone and are private affairs?

I'm not saying I want or expect sexual content. But if 30% do, that's a fair statistic.

If we
were to poll young adults or teens, that 30% would probably climb to a much higher percentage.

 

The all-or-nothing bit has to do more with player representation as well as the fact that if you include one aspect of sexuality in whatever form it manifests itself, then there will most certainly be a clamor to include other aspects. That's why I mentioned the BDSM example if vanilla is included. Even if you look at the Sims with its cartoony censored version, folks have created adult mods because of the demand. I think that's why it has to be all or nothing. Still, Sims-like sex would be okay in my book too because it would be relatively simple to do, would not require any change to ESRB ratings, and could allow for adult basement/ player towns/ red light districts/ vanilla bedrooms etc. by destigmatizing sexual expression and normalizing it. The only difference between erotica and pornography is the fact that pornography has no artistic merit.

In Ultima online, the succubus was introduced to the Ultima series, I think it was in the "Third Dawn" as far as I can remember, maybe sooner in other Ultima games. But I just want to point out that a succubus is a female demon that lures men into having sex in order to seduce them.

 

I'm not For nor against .. but I am For Discussing it much later in series development ,,,,, If It is part of the Story line in even the slightest sense let it be properly implemented.. I am for Adult rating though to reduce the Teen players ,but thats just my selfish performance.

 

I know a fair number of artists who would strongly disagree with this statement. I'd also wager there is a fair number of pornography actors, actresses, and producers who disagree. But that's the beauty of art, hm? To each his own.

 

If you support an Adult rating, it better be for content's sake, 'cause a rating sure as heck won't keep out the young 'uns.

 

This is a weird thread, I don't get this whole dating/erotic RP thing personally and I really don't understand why we need separate places for these kind of people to go "do their thing", if its that distasteful do it in your locked house :S

As this is something of freedom, I support it in the privet places where others can't see it, yet I also must point out, "That such things as graphic nude content are forbidden by law here in Thailand" which would prevent SotA from becoming sold here.

True , but I never put my life on hold for the sake of what others might think or feel, Sports,Politics,Religion,Sex , .... Its all Taboo depending on who's talking ..

 

Seems to me its all about choice. One way you have the choice to behave as you like, the other way everyone is forced to behave according to a generic, vanilla code of conduct. I'm not saying I want things like nudity or other risque elements in SoTA, but I am saying that playing as a virtuous avatar has no real meaning if that's my only choice. Its all about choice.

VBs note makes me think maybe we could shorthand the "majority" group as the "Moral Majority." That reminds me of something.

Reread my posts, glean whatever you will from them and accept my answers to everything you said. Do not put anything in my mouth, and don't force your morality on me. We all have opinions.

Also on a side note, I urge you not to sacrifice your true freedom for the radical fight for what you think is right. If that upsets you, confuses you, or you don't know what I'm talking about, I urge you to hold off on replying, and let it go. If you do know what I mean, think about it rather than arguing back at me. Is it possible anymore to disagree in a friendly way? If not then that's what I'm referring to when I talk about losing your true freedom.

 

I personally don't want to see development time wasted on cannibalism or human trophies or the use of body parts in reagents and that level of violence is already going to earn this game an R18+ rating. Sex and relationships will only earn it an MA 15+ for example Playboy The Mansion could only have been at max a MA15+

 

Even Playboy The Mansion only had an MA15+ rating at most because if it had been classed as an R +18 at the time it came out it would have been RC because we didn't have an R 18+ at the time

 

Why is playing a game that has killing, blood and gore not affecting their emotional development? I saw 8 year old kids playing UO, and yes, you could turn off the blood, but seriously? The issue is not necessarily what's in the game, but rather what parents allow their children to do because they can't say no.

I think if a game has sexual content, and it's handled appropriately, it would definitely not damage a child's emotional development (it is a natural curiosity). But I do think seeing people killing each other does.
