I'm very saddened by this news. Possibly the final straw for me. I'm going to write a post soon summarizing my feelings on this game I had such high hopes for. ...

Thank you for your anecdote. I hope that the numbers you mention are correct.

NP, they may change of course and some mobs will surely have something better but i thought they were fair. Ive seen some that have found many, some that have never seen them... But in a true RNG system that's sort of how it goes haha.

I think the market will tell us everything we need to know about the availability of Obsidian Crowns. If they're being sold on vendors for 25k (for example) then they're really rare. If a month from now they're being sold for 2k, how rare do you think they are?

I think prices will settle in quick after the final wipe and then based on the popularity of the game and what you can buy with an Obsidian Crown, we'll see some very interesting economic events. :)

Crowns on the add-on store completely eliminate item breakage via a pay to win strategy so how exactly does ruining the long term viability of crafting professions allow players to contribute to the sustenance of the game? This will more than halve the ongoing demand for new armor and weapons.

    I like the bundles.
They are a nice idea. Going to buy one as soon as i can melt down some stuff if @Berek isn't magically able to melt down some of the stuff i have for me ;-)
The crowns...eh...something had to happen about the income. I guess this is as good or bad as everything i couldd come up with ;-)

Also, just for reference, these are the build 418/R30/20160527 Obsidian Potion of effects: (each requires a Crown of the Obsidians to purchase)

Stamina: Decreases focus use from sprinting by 50%
Reclamation: +25 Salvage and Repair to all production skills
Preservation: Reduces armor and weapon damage by 25%
Precision: +10 Meticulous Collection to all gathering skills
Expedience: +40% Swift Gathering on all gathering skills
Conservation: Reduces reagent use chance by 25%
    Capacity: Increases carrying capacity

These all have the same duration, " for 7 New Brittanian months". (I think that was one or two weeks realtime previously?)
Some of the effects are a bit vague, but there they are. Taken from the Obsidian Crown Merchant in the Ardoris Alchemist shop in Sequanna Square.

Perfect, now we can get tax free lots without pledging, what was the big selling point, and we can buy gold in the store, good bye economy.

In-game prices are going to lag behind actually changes.

Not to mention stuff like the pledge crowns are going to warp the rate for a long while yet.

If @WrathPhoenix is right about what @Chris said then they already have numbers they could use as an index. They could even automate stuff that republished that number as part of the patching process.

Any issues with the idea, @DarkStarr ?

For those concerned, I will be a consumer of armor you craft. If there is stuff I want on a merchant, I'll be buying it. I will not be one of those who buy the crowns to sell, I will be one who find them on my journey. I believe I will rather hold on to these instead of turning them in for personal repairs, as I can get more money for them than what I'd feel is a fair cost for repairing an old armor piece (when one day, there is special equipment that cannot be easily replaced, then my view might change). I also believe this will stabilise the cost of crafted equipment, as most npc armor is dirt cheap (another issue?).. perhaps the problem really lies in what the NPC merchants see as prices from us, and the new cost they are willing to pay for a crown...? We need the NPC's buy-back table enhanced, imo.

On the other hand people will need PoT space to place them.
    Which is good for PoTs.

that may be but selling tax free lots in store are a broken promise. They should be only available for pledges.

Well, if we went back in time about 3 years you'd see all my posts about this very subject. Regardless of Obsidian Crowns, the devs have chosen an economic model that must be manged by THEM. It's reactive and it requires NPC's to strongly influence the price of just about everything by undercutting what players can sell it for in the open market. I don't like that as the BEST solution, but I'm confident it will work on a macro level. Yes, there will be plenty of micro level outliers that make people mad.

Good idea, I was planning on events in my PoT, jump off my airship into my hot tub. The closest person wins prizes, I can put the diving board up on the ship!

As i already said in another thread: technically it is not.
    PoT deeds weren't existing.
I am not going to defend that move though. I can understand why it will anger some people.
    I still like the packs.
