    Hey guys!

This is my first post here in the Forum and I would just to highlight something that makes me mad.
I just bought a stucco 4-story house for a row lot. Great!!! Then I placed it and I realized that 50% of the space occupied by my house is STAIRCASES.

This malfunction is present in almost all the tall row bildings (3 or 4 stories)

I don't see the point of having two separate stairs one going upstairs and one going downstairs, in two different points. It just eat up space that can be used better for decoration.

I'm sure that this topic was raised millions of times by other people and i'm not the first complaining about that. Please developers, do something about that. It's not a secondary thing. Housing is supposed to be one of the central points of this game. Players should have much more control over houses.

My dream is the "build your house" menu that gives you modules to combine to get your personal style. Waiting for that I would suggest to put all the stairs of row lots houses one over each other, saving at least 25% of the living space. An Avatar needs it!!!

    Fare thee well

Don't forget the metre thick wall next to one of the stairs. The design is so bad I can only assume it is deliberate. Also the roof leaks when it rains.

All the row houses I have ever used had only one staircase and plenty of living room. I am not familiar with the one you mention, but if there are two separate staircases, that indeed makes no sense. If I had bought it for personal use I would melt it down for store credit at the next wipe.

Currently, each row lot already has a default house on it that you can use, so you needn't buy one at all. Just find a lot with a house that you like and claim it. (I don't know if this will still be the case post-release.)

EDIT: Now I get it! I misread the original post and thought it was talking about two staircases on each floor both going up. Instead it was talking about one going up and one going down taking up too much space. Sorry I misread this!

I'm not talking about a personal thing.
It is just insane to have houses designed like that. If SotA was real life I would sue the architect who designed it... haha
And the internal division of rooms is bad as well...

I think he may be referring to the adobe houses which tend to have two stairs and are a bit cramped. These require village lots though.

He means this house: stucco 4-story row
I think it would help if the stairs were not so wide.
But on the other side, it has plenty of room compared to some village houses (citizen, edelmann).

IIRC, all row houses of more than 3 stories suffer from this. If it's efficient use of space you want, you're best off to use the default row house. In addition to what the OP mentioned, there are also space issues with the stone row homes as the entrance stairs cut into the dwelling. I'm hoping some of this is a matter of "current placeholders " and we'll see improvement in the future.

As Solazur said... all the tall houses suffer from this.
Btw... when I get back home i'll take some screenshots to explain better the matter.
You can see what I mean in the photo number 3 in the link that Senash posted

    Welcome, @Inkub0 !
Some houses are a bit crammed, I'll give you that.
Maybe a spiral staircaise could be of help? :D

Thanks for all the info on the stucco row houses, wasn't aware these existed. You can see the big difference in floor space by comparing the space available in the row basement floors vs the space in the row house itself.

Another basic problem is that available furniture (tables specially) are sized for larger homes. Stairs too - which is why they alternate sides.

    Welcome @Inkub0 :)

    Elevators would solve the problem.

Perhaps power the elevator with the flying donkeys in the poll?

It would be nice if the top level of the 3 and 4 story row houses were open like an attic instead of enclosed, then maybe it could be switched to a ladder instead of a staircase and free up more room. However, as stated before, the row houses have A LOT more space inside than some of the houses that are pledge rewards for village lots.. so they are still a good value for the space.

It would be pretty cool if eventually housing were modular and you could choose what each story looked like.

I like the staircases, btw. I haven't used the stucco house, but, at any rate, but I've found row lots I've tried out to have a decent amount of room even with the stairs.

When the devs were talking about stone basements for row houses, though, and talking about how they'd use ladders instead of stairs, I was wondering why we couldn't have a choice, and also why they couldn't make a narrower version of staircases. Stairs come in all shapes and sizes! Some could also have space underneath them.

I'm of the view many houses need to have redesigns (some of the stair placements render entire floors mostly useless). But I understand that the desire is to put dev time into more important features at the moment... Though it does sadden me a number of the pledge houses are mostly unlivable by design.

I would sort of like to see the stairs flipped around so that the top of one is near the bottom of the next. You would go up the house in a circular route, instead of a zig-zag.

You should see the Lord Founder house. I swear it's all one big hallway.

I definitely have to wonder what they were thinking when designing some of these houses.

I believe they said it had something to do with the actual size of the stone modeling or whatever they use.
