People can also flag themselves for PvE in OPO. Why limit it to only SPO and FPO, if that is what people want? If there will be a full loot Open PvP mode, then the game can match PvE players with PvE players, and PvP players with PvP players, and neither need see the other. PvP can be in its own arena with Selective Multiplayer, just as multiplayer PvE can be in its own arena.

like how everquest next seems to handle this problem

everquest next = rpg (instanced pvp)
everquest landmark = Building editor , sandbox game , with combat system from everquest next to test and balance it ?? + open world pvp seems to be a funny solution to seperate the pvpers from pve guys + they can build dungeons and houses for everquest next and get rewarded with real life money

wow thats what i call a good idea, you can do open world pvp and build unique stuff you can make real life money with selling it to the everquest develpers and players if i have understood it right

Hello, old player with some ideas, maybe someone will like and agree.

I personally would like a full loot style system. Sadly, I do believe that with the majority of demographics in gaming and a purpose based around making money, a full loot system may not be in the best realm to keep a game running. (if it is the sole intent of the game). Some Opinions and Questions:

As stated about PVP and the various flags ( Oracle quest for full time PVP, Guild for a Targetted group PVP, Zones designated for Area-PVP, and duels for limited 1 time PVP ) is what rewards do these really stand? As stated previously, only the Zone area will have a benefit in that it has rare items and or mobs. The other 3 forms ( oracle, guild, duel ) are solely intended then for entertainment value with no real reward ( ransom/chance of an item?) in the purposed current form.

The changes I purpose, and I would be glad to hear criticism on it, would be the following:
    - Players who accept the oracle PVP quest gain a bonus to mob/resource loot regardless of zone ( could be like +10% more gold or +1 item from nodes, chance at loot only from being PVP flagged, or whatever, value can change for balance)
    - Players in PVP designated Zones get a bonus to mob/resource loot ( again, like Oracle, and stacking per say maybe, maybe in PVP zones you have a chance to mine iridium for enchanting or some feature, and oracle flagged you have double the chance? )
    - Guilds that have declared war on eachother have no safe spot from guards maybe?

    Looting, A few Different Ideas:
    - Balanced Method ( to me ) - Upon death, the deceased has everything except Blessed items ( Quest items, benefactor/founder, ect) and equipped gear remains with the deceased. Equipment damage is then taken to remaining armor ( maybe 5%? Maybe completely broken and needs to be repaired so they don't just zerg-spawn in large fights and instead need to be fixed).
    - Ransom Method: The Above method could be saved for those that are PVP oracle flagged, and those that are in a PVP zone take less equipment damage or only drop a threshold of loot ( dependent on Level and value maybe? Going with the Devs it could be equipment and a ransom may be payed? )
    - Combined Method: If Target is killed in a PVP zone or both individuals are PVP flagged in a non-PVP zone, the balanced method kicks in with all loot except equipment dropped, and an additional 1 piece of equipped gear may be taken or ransomed ? ( This method adds an additional benefit to the winner in that they not only get whatever they were carrying, but 99/100 they get gold as well)

With these methods, or combination, if an individual does not want to participate in PVP they may completely forgo PVP and play unmolested in designated areas. The Risk is Minimal and the rewards are still hefty in that they can still make plenty of gold/skill gains/items in the various amount of PVE - cenetered areas.
For Individuals that Flagged PVP, they have a risk to watch over their shoulders, but with an additional reward for taking the risk. A player Flagged for PVP may feel safe in a Non-PVP zone while they farm additional ores/plants/animals then what the non-PVE players might ( rewards can vary, nothing set in stone) but they always face having a marauding band of Individuals slay them and take their hard-earned items.

I feel, in my opinion, that this method adds both a Consensual PVP arguement that might or might not be tailored towards the masses, as well as a PVP centered Reward aimed for the other side of view. Additional benefits people have mentioned such as Guilds taking over zones and such can add to the fun, to me.

    Thoughts and Opinions?

Bloody hell...too many WoW and EQ players stuffing it all up. I agree with the OP and I was on Siege Perilous. I had originally played Oceania but moved after hearing tales of this awesome place where you had to learn to survive, put in some actual effort in other words. I never went back to Oceania. All games like WoW and EQ have done is dumb down gamers on a massive scale. If you didn't play SP, you don't know what you were missing. We can have an opinion as well you know, one that should matter. We were part of UO just as much as all the other shards. Anyone that played SP will know very well the differences, those who didn't .. I do pity you.

As far as I'm concerned, full non-consensual pvp and full looting rights, no safe zone housing etc etc is the only way to go. None of this blessed item crap that came in. None of this safe zone and damned bags of sending blah blah. I want danger. I want the constant threat of either guild enemies, randoms or gank squads after me and my friends. Gank squads always came and went but some of the best times I had was going up against them with my guild or just a bunch of friends. Without the freedom to be harassed by these idiots, there is some danger gone. If you can't lose everything, much more danger down the drain. Only consensual pvp? Wus! Don't want to lose your items? Please - go play WoW. I knew plenty of people who didn't pvp on Siege. They learned to survive and never went back. Fear brings so much to the game in ways the Trammies might not ever understand. You'll always be catered for though, you'll be bringing in the most money after all.

If they are going to nerf this game to death I can't see many from SP lasting and those that do, well...all the best. I'll be having a go, already pledged and so on, but I fear I won't last long regardless of how much I love UO and the Ultima series in general. I don't want a PvE world. I want to have to consider every action, I want my decisions, even such as simple one as leaving town and what I have on me (or even what is in my backpack when I am in town!) to have possibly dire consequences.

They gave the people who wanted a tough game a place to be. I hope they do the same and open up a server for the minority who want to really live to the max the world in which the game is set. Hell, I'd pay extra for that.

You were ok until you said Nonconsentual. UO Siege Perilous was not Nonconsentual. You had Trammel on a dozen other UO shards, so if you came to Siege, you were consenting.

SotA can have the same thing with Selective Multiplayer if the devs will make full loot an option. People playing PvE multiplayer will be in a virtual Trammel environment, and people in Open PvP Full Loot will be in a virtual Siege Perilous environment.

If they do end up making a variety of servers instead of one massive one, I would not mind a full-loot PVP server. I was posting to try and find a balance if they were to be merged and hopefully make all parties something they can partially agree with.

LOL every game has this discussion. Over and over again, always with the same struggles.
Gank parties are no fun. Grievers are no fun.
Im not having fun if i constantly need to fight a bunch of kiddies who just get bored and start killing out of boredom.
For me that breaks immersiveness and is no fun. If you have invested a lot of real money to roleplay a old wizard or just socialise (yeah i know facebook, msn, whatsapp and all that crap) i am not suggesting to get a job in the army because we like to fight?
I understand the need for fear and danger, but not everyone is into that. Ive done my time in eve-gankfest-online and am looking to actually build and enjoy my stay.
So im curious what and how the creators will implement to accomodate all the different kind of players :)

If i missed the whole point ... As i sometimes do, i already apologise ...

In Star Citizen non-consentual PVP is possible in almost all of space, however PVP in areas under control of the United Earth Empire attracts a bounty, which pays other players for your capture or death.
They have also provided a PVP/PVE slider which affects the probability of any enemy you encounter being NPC vs PC. This slider is most effective in UEE space, and decreasingly effective the further out you go.
It remains to be seen whether or not this system will work as intended.

they announced the game will have pve only optional
its a shame they not announce the same for open pvp , full loot + separated pvp players.

in the hangout they told combat system is 70 percent done next release will be a non combat one really ? a combat system in 2 month poletarium why ?? lord british told that it was 15 years work to develop ultima why not take minimum 5-6 releases for combat only ?? especially is this state where even a melee fighter wont work

i know a lot of people like you not like that playstyle and the possebility of being ganked , that doesnt mean poletarium should not implement the option to live "under ultima online rules" aswell,

people like the games, they enjoyed playing as a kid ,why not satisfy those people ??? this game defenetly discriminate old pvp uo players and everyone who loved uo , because it was a sandbox game

they call it the ultimative roleplaying game ?? by not allowing players to play the evil role, a big part of a gameplay i enjoy in an mmo would miss ! good vs evil , farm gear for pvp and the addiction to want a full house of crafting materials, that my character can reequip himself for a whole month . for me a house would not make sense without a vendor and materials you need for crafting. a house only for rare props you can find in dungeons ?? really

they would loose the half of there future playerbase by doing that. robbing the game the chance to envolve , especially when they build the game with mechanics they cant change later on.

What makes you think that? Yes you can avoid PvE if you like, you can even play PvP and sandbox only if you like, but PvE is a core element of SotA and to declare PvE as optional sounds very strange ;)

The thread is too long and im too lazy to read everything, so probably someone said it before. But if you have a switch to turn on or off the PVP the people is likely going to turn ON when they are going to want to do PVP. Yes, its obvious. And if you only have people who want PVP you are going to have brainless arena with blood everywhere like the PVP zone in any other WOW clone aka GW2 or TESO. There is no human interaction there, there is no roleplay, its just a death match like counter strike. And if I play MMO•RPG its because of the rpg and the mmo. I want human interactions, I want to be robbed meanwhile im traveling from one city to another, I want to be betrayed by my partner after a good loot and I want to do pve with randon people in a pvp world.

The gank argument is rubbish. Crap pvp like wow n such promotes that because there is no risk vs reward. If you got ramifications for Pking, there is nothing to gain from ress killing. You will prob get ganked once though. Shinies n all that, but after you been relieved of said shinies, youre safe as.houses

And please stop with the Open PvP Looting equals no monwy argument. There is a niche for it and Ive seen enough people over the years crave it. Eve wouldn't exist if there was no market for hardcore games. We dont want the type of players Wo W has. Less is more

Now if clyzor didn't REALLY mean non-consensual PvP, but some other kind of PvP, then he was expressing himself badly, and it's not a case of me being a good person or a bad person, but rather just an accurate person. If he DID mean non-consensual PvP, then he was being incorrect if he was describing UO Siege Perilous, which prompted my original response.

Eve wouldn't exist if there was a sci fi game worth anything for those players to move to. PvP is avoidable in Eve.

No, you can't gank someone anywhere in EvE. I've been playing EvE off and on for a while now, and in high sec space, I've never encountered any PvP.

    Seems pretty avoidable to me.

Yet again another person thinking they have all the answers, force everyone to do things their way, fixes everything. Clueless to the human reaction... Assume someone does not PvP, can't PvP, shouldn't PvP, or has no right to post in the PvP forum only proves you want what you want and could care less about game design.

This isn't the 90's, you can't force people to PvP and honestly, if you want to force people to PvP then I say you don't have a clue how to PvP and only wish to have easier targets.

OH I know, lets make it so when you gank someone the guard confiscate your house and freeze your bank. That will put in some good risk for you.

The devs have a much better plan then forcing something one part of the community wants and would never have due to the rest not logging in from lack in interest.

But hey, it's your PvP forum I just rent space here.

I'm quite certain most people aren't aware of it, and it will take many people by surprise. For my part, unless CR / CIG goes back on that or open up an official PvE server, it just means that I won't even bother creating a character for online play, and will instead just play the offline version of the persistent universe. I've experienced enough non-consensual PvP to know that I never, ever, want to take part in something like that again.

Oh, right. You can gank anyone almost anywhere in EVE (try it on the starter systems, where newbies first spawn, and you might get a ban).

But can you earn anything by doing that in high-sec, where — according to CCP — most of the players stay? You need to have a ship, or group of ships, powerful enough to take down the opponent in seconds, before CONCORD teleports in and turn you all into molten slag, and most of what all ships were equipping or carrying will be destroyed. Then you need someone else close, but unassociated, to pick everything that remains (and who will become "gray" for 15 minutes by doing that, meaning anyone can fire at that player without CONCORD getting in the way). On top of that, you just lost standing with the NPC faction that controls that system, and if you do enough of that you will be fired upon on sight, prevented from even entering those systems until you do a bunch of PvE farming to bring your standing back up.

And don't even think about surviving a CONCORD attack; to the best of my knowledge, if you manage to do that, you will receive a short term ban for exploiting the system and CONCORD will be buffed to render whatever tactic you used ineffective.

So, yeah, PvP can happen anywhere in EVE. It only happens in High-Sec very rarely, though, and almost always just as pure griefing, since it's nearly impossible to earn anything worthwhile by doing that.

    OMFG LOL!

Clearly you got no idea about Eve.

Secondly once you go research the facts you see its a risk vs reward system and works very well. Yes you can mitigate your chances of pvp, but if you make yourself a target the danger is there

He is talking about this, it's called suicide ganking:

    http://www.eveinfo.net/wiki/ind~2143.htm

You can be attacked in hisec, and goonswarm did a massive attack utilizing a ton of newbs in hisec before that completely shut down a major starport.
