    Stress leave?

Probably not but it seems perfectly reasonable. He has a new kid he appears to voice his disagreements and some bosses just don't like disagreements if they aren't disagreements they can agree with.

    Seems perfectly legit.

I mean, he's been around. He's helping with bugs and such with R16. But, uh, this was still promised to us over a month ago. It isn't like, a demo or anything, just supposed to be his brainstorm on the system. Wonder what's the hold-up.

They must have experienced something... Whatever that something is it means there is other stuff more important than this stuff and they don't want to deal with any backlash against their new stuff till the old stuff is dealt with.

Seems like they are knee deep in stuff.

It doesn't take too much combining of stuff to become hypergolic.
I would have more stock in this thread if Port just put up a sign "gone fishing".

It's nearly 2 months now from when we were possibly supposed to learn about the big meta PvP ideas for SotA and so far we have heard nothing. Nothing that would help us, the early backers of the game, be armed with information to go out and create a big "word of mouth" campaign to help sell and fund the game. I can't help but to think of the amount of potential funding lost every single day because of this situation.

Is there a issue with lack of transparency at this point? Doesn't Portalarium want to put these big meta ideas out there for the early backers so their thoughts and opinions are taken into consideration to avoid a major problem(s) on release?

Completely agree, really struggling to attract people I know into the game simply because there is a lack of clarity on the direction of PvP. I know there are little snippets of what is being considered etc, but this is still too uncertain for many to make any kind of commitment......feedback from people I know suggests PvP is too fluffy and cuddly and combat in general is a little awkward.

How shocking..you fail to convince PvP like-minded folks to try SotA? Since when is this the kind of game they'd look out for in the first place?
Was writing and writing, but then i remembered that in the end? Just like always, we will get a watered down version so that all can "fit" and everyone will call it a day. We might even remember people like the poster above me, so we can "thank" them for it :)

So am just going to leave this here. A dedication if you will to each and every mindless sheep incapable of comprehending how, in order to cater to everyone, you can only water DOWN. And never up.
To each and every one of said sheep that, incapable of comprehending the above, continues to steadfastly ask for the same thing over and over and over again..for fifteen years now.

Well done chaps. Whosoever you are. Let's see how many of you "enthusiasts" will still be around after the new bunch of PvP titles come up. Let's see how many of the rest of you will still be here when you get to have to face the consequences of all this, even after said enthusiasts have left the building.
Because you see, this is the real issue at heart here. This game will thrive on the few, fat whales. Spending thousands of dollars on virtual virtues :)

The majority, exercising a degree of caution and restraint because this is just a game has the logic (precisely due to managing to remain cautious) to comprehend that this model, with this store, and this engine, and this much ambivalence over something so central says a number of things. None of which good. If you honestly think lack of further "buzz" or "early members" is due to bad UI, engine not optimised or AA32 GFX not yet implemented?..Keep dreaming. If you think that come Beta it will all magically change? Keep dreaming. You are all doing this to yourselves. Not your fault, they only had one prerequisite, if wallet, enter. People did, each asked their own.

Your fault is for failing to grasp the very basic essentials. Regardless of PvE or PvP "side".

    @Aenra
The parts of your post that make sense....I completely disagree.

What sort of PvPers would be watching SotA?.......well you can start with most of the UO PvP community.
The way in which players enter scenes means that content does not need to be watered down and ensures that even the most extreme communities can be catered for within reason.
If the content is available and executed correctly with decent gameplay there is no reason why it shouldn't have a lasting interest for players.

"This game will thrive on the few, fat whales. Spending thousands of dollars on virtual virtues"

Very short sighted and quite offensive to those who have dug deep in their pockets.

It may certainly be shortsighted and disagreeing with his points is fine. I'm not certain how one could find it offensive if someone says they believe that the game will thrive on a small group of high dollar investors. Its certainly an opinion one could disagree with, but offensive?

Calling someone a fat whale can be seen as offensive. Saying the money being spent is for 'virtual virtues'? and that catering to them will mean the downfall of the game's success, could be considered offensive too.

All I see is a bunch of passionate people who want to see this game become the game they want to play, and there are a thousand different perspectives on what is the game of their dreams. The developers don't even all agree on what's the most fun way to play combat in a game. Tracy Hickman has been known to prefer Perma-death. If you die, game over. But I'm sure even though he won't get his favorite playstyle, he'll still play and enjoy SotA. In the end, we're all going to have to compromise, and try to work together to make a game that we can still enjoy with others. And from what I've seen so far, waving money around doesn't garner any enfluence with this Dev team. They are creating the game based on their vast experience in the industry, and reading all our feedback for perspectives they may not have thought of yet.

    lol

"Whale" means someone who spends a lot of money on a video game, either through a cash shop or buying virtual gold from third parties for an advantage.

Back on topic: Chris, wtf dude. This isn't a demo we're waiting on; it's a Word doc. It's been a month. What gives?

Whales, it originated as a term in Las Vegas casinos where lavish spenders are referred to as whales. That linked article talks about use of the term whales in the games industry to describe how company's continue to bleed more money from large donors, the whales. Its probably a good idea to read that. You might remember that Portalarium, before launching this Kickstarter, signed a deal with Zynga, the articles subject.
