It still has a way to go, I know it's a first draft at it and it's definitely a 100x more immersive than the old way. Just needs some cleaning up and better NPC models ( I know that is under way, but it's more noticable now you see them close up! )

Great work on the change Portalarium.

I am also enjoying the NPC conversation mode. My two cents for improvement: allow player movement (WASD keys for most) to trigger the conversation to end. To me it seemed unintuitive having to click close on the chat tab. I'd love to see an improved chat interface that showed player text on one side and NPC text on the other; similar to iPhone SMS/iMessage conversation, but without the chat bubbles. I think it would also be great if the chat window position and size could be persisted for NPC chat mode. This way next time I find myself in NPC chat the chat window snaps to my preferred position and size.

I have mixed feelings about conversation mode...For me the Gold Standard for this sort of thing is the interactive story telling in SWtoR which really does this NPC interaction and story telling phenomenally well.

For me the way this has been done in SotA still feels very clunky. The first time it happened I wasn't even sure what was going on. I think what might help is to have the NPC say something in Audio so that there's some sort of cue for what's going on. Also the camera angles occasionally just didn't feel right.

That being said I do like the idea of conversation mode. I like the focus it gives you on the story interactions.

    DF.

If I'm ot typing in the input filed, wasd would be excellent conversation enders.

Also use a timer to test the delay between keys strokes so as not to focus chat when using shortcut keys.

What about a "goodbye" button to end a conversation?

it is good but window focus in general still needs some tweaking.

eg. whenever 'enter' is pressed i should be able to start typing in the chat without needing to click the window.

i also found that i wanted to "run" out of these dialog focus by using the movement keys.

The "esc" key worked for me.

Really? I'll have to give it a try again. I thought I tried ESC last night, but it didn't have an effect.. It was late though so might have observed it incorrectly

I thought it was an interesting experiment / first step. Lots of fine tuning if we keep it in-game. And yeah, ESC worked for me to exit conversation mode.

Not a fan of this for npc vendors. It's too clunky and takes me away from the scene. It is also nice to see who is around you and or be able to chat to them whilst trading with the npc.

    We gave this feedback R10:
    Suggestion
If you type >10 wasd characters in a row, that is the same as bye, this since most people don't want to say
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa or wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww or ssssssssssssss, etc.

if you end the conversation with bye or so should just end the mode or perhaps a timer?

I love the new zoom in system when talking to NPCs but the thing I would suggest is to automatically end conversation if you move your character.

Really great work! I like how the camera zooms in on the person you are talking to and how this puts the focus on the conversation. If we just could somehow pin the chat window to a position at the middle of the screen... and I would love to have a goodbye button to end a conversation in a more natural way than clicking on an x.
