I'm ok with it but I would prefer 1 online and 1 offline character.

I love it, does not allow hiding behind alt names and avoiding the consequences :D

They've been stating that it would be only one character since before the Kickstarter was even funded. To say that most people probably didn't even know what they were buying isn't true. The majority of backers are Kickstarter backers, but they mentioned this from the beginning.

Mate... just because a company says something doesn't mean everyone necessarily takes it in. More importantly, however, when you look at all the questions people ask about the game, here on the forum (which are also topics that the company has spoken about at length), it's absolutely clear that there are people who have bought the game, then start asking questions about it. Otherwise they wouldn't be asking the questions they ask, post-purchase, would they?

Now, you might have made sure you were across it all before you purchased; bravo. But you can't account for everyone else and, in light of the questions and comments here on the forum, it seems clear that not everyone did the same.

I believe it is right and proper.

I've been happy to have multiple character slots in other games. In SWTOR I had several, and I tried on many different classes. In WoW I did the same, though I very much had a Main in that game. In those settings it was necessary, as the class selected dictated what the character would be able to do, and not do from the moment that choice was made.

In SotA, however, is classless, and you should be able to turn yourself into whatever character suits your taste, and be able to change that over time as you find what works for you, and as your tastes change. It also works with one of Richard's recurrent themes of the Avatar in the game being You, and that Your actions should carry forward with you.

I do not want more than 1 character whether I play sota as a single player, or online play... I'm totally with Richard on it being a representation of "me," just like all Ultimas were.

Having played all the other Ultimas I've never considered the Avatar a representation of "me". It was always some other guy from Earth. :) Anyone who wants to RP that way that's great.. but you can't force that mindset on players. It's something they have to willingly accept for themselves.

For the record.. Bowen will NOT be me.. neither will he be from Earth.

I think it really handicaps true roleplayers who would like multiple characters for legitimate reasons (most RPers I've known have played many great and interesting characters). but.. as Dame Lori pointed out many months ago (when I was making a huge stink over this).. the new account is only $40. If you compare that to what we usually spend on our entertainment the prices of a new account or two over time is negligible.

Go out to dinner one night.. or get a new account for hundreds of hours of entertainment.

So while I'm not especially happy about the limit. I guess I can't really complain either. It's not a subscription game. 3 accounts would cost less than any other subscription MMO for a year.

With the idea of point redistribution I personally don't see a need for more than one. It's all I'd ever use anyway.

Respec is all well and good if your mindset is that you're just playing a game. But for me.. I want to craft.. but Bowen is NOT a crafter. If I respect him he's no longer the character I want him to be. If he trains up skills he's not meant to have.. he's no longer the character I designed. So if I want a crafter at all.. I need that extra character.

And then there is one, created to be unique and of oneself. The idea to be empowered, and vast without unworthiness. To know who is who without masking in disguise of another, holds a great power of accountability.

I like to commit to one character so it doesn't affect me one bit.

Same here. Even in games that offer alts, sure I might make them and dabble with them (the slots are there, so why not?), but I will always play the same character 95% of the time regardless.

I expect SOTA characters to be really complex, just like real people. A regular guy goes to work (w/ skills for that), has hobbies (w/skills for that) and goes out with his buddies & takes care of family (requires skills too many to count). Most people will have their hands full just managing one char.

As someone who doesn't get the idea of playing alts (restarting a game and playing through all the quests to level an alt up really bores me) I'm happy with the one character rule.
