Ah, Ultima V - Warriors of Destiny :) Though I must admit, I never beat this game - what a shame. The usual reason is a lack of spare time and this is true for many other games in my collection. Old ones like Ultima V and VI and new ones like Pillars of Eternity and the Witcher 3 for example. But once I'm retired I will play them all :D

Lol yes, I think its a bit obligatory to link to my thread on this, on camp scenes.

Being able to set up tents, crafting stations, and other things on an ad-hoc lot. Having ambushes, especially at night. You'd also be able to attract other players interested in meeting up with you. Or just create a meeting spot.

The campfire would just be set up at the center of the lot area, and it would let you control settings, like the lot marker.

This idea dovetails nicely with redfish's previous campfire idea.

I would love this, but the mechanics would be strange in programming.

Players creating instances on a whim?

Sounds like a lot of baggage, I wonder how they could manage it all?

    @redfish

    Man sorry.

I did search "camp" before i made my post.

If i had known i would have directly referred to your awesome thread about camping.

I will edit my opening post

    Hmm.

    Another approach would be this.

    Not a overworld aproach.

Every instance has on sertant locations a "camp" lot.

Unused you do not notice them.
Like current house Lots as long as unused trees and normal nature is on it.

All you see is a Stone on the ground with a different look.

You need to craft a camp kit to use it.

It will say: please use a camp kit to claim thid spot for 20 minutes.

If you use that deed you get a temporary 20 minute active "camp" created at such spots.

Not so elegant as the overworld suggestion but probaly more easy to create for the developers as it uses the existing lot system.

    Kind regards.

That was for sailing though, so it would matter when functional boats are added into the game. With SotAs technology, I could imagine it going above and beyond simple wind direction, to stormy weather causing violent waves heaving your ship. Diff' topic though.

Nah, if they didn't do an overworld/"camp scene" approach, I'd rather they made it so you could place a campfire anywhere, and then the game would create a small lot area around it where there was enough room. Big enough for just a few small sleeping tents. The devs have been debating "drop anywhere," but that concept could be modified to "drop around a created camp area." The same concept could then be done on a smaller scale with things like picnic blankets.

However, I think the "camp scene" approach has a lot of advantages to it.
