Cool idea, but I'm guessing technologically quite difficult to implement. I think the overland map primarily exists statically, and these campfire instances would need a dynamic environment. Also, how could you in theory keep thousands of players from creating their own campfire on the map at the same time? Some people are all ready in an uproar over POTs 'polluting' the map, this would be way worse.

I'm not a programmer, so maybe it is possible. I do like the idea.

I think what would be nice in SINGLE-PLAYER OFFLINE is a way to camp ( or use an inn ) to advance the time of day until daybreak, like as in Ultima 4 onward.

    1. You would never see thousands as by design we only see max maybe 60 players as i understood.

I thougt the overworld map is still on hexes. But we do not see it

And a good realistic camp symbol with a fire and tent would be of course better.

But just a suggestion. I do not know if it is easy or hard

Hmm, that sounds like a nice idea. Though, I would like the ability to build a campfire wherever I am, and perhaps use it for simple cooking...(though I assume people will light fires all over the place :p).

Within Instances i think it will not be possible. As the only place to "build" something or "place" something are on "player-lots".

So the idea is to at least have a overworld instance ( player creatable like the example) that has a pre created Fire upon design. So you do not place it - you go into your campfire instance and there it is already all set up.

    ( Kind a workaround). :)

    Definitely yes!
Maybe we would have to buy or craft a campfire-kit in order to be able to set up camp on the overland map.

    +1000!

Yeah this campfire idea has been around since the KS and I really hope they find a way to allow for it, if not for Ep1 then some time afterwards.

I wouldn't mind seeing many dozens of these on the overworld map, but I can see an option to not display these either. Or, the selective multiplayer can be used to only show campfires of those on your social lists or other logic (e.g. PvP timers). The instance would only exist for as long as players are in the scene, with appropriate timers due to disconnects. I don't see why this couldn't work for both offline and online if done correctly.

The underlying tech should be there, as they've always stated the overworld map would be dynamic due to the KS Stretch Goal of contested resource zones:
Also, the overworld is just another scene. They can tweak the player limit as needed. And I think it's already a ghost zone so they need to increase whatever that limit is now.

They could use the overworld encounters scene for a base to the player campfire instance, and just change the icon on the map to a campfire symbol. There is more than enough space on those scenes to support a campfire, bedroll and maybe a tent prop.

I like this idea, tho I believe it should allow for pvp action.. or not, a toggle. It should also allow dynamic placement, only visible when within a certain distance, maybe enhanced more when at night. In effect, it would be like making a beacon for other pvpers to either join or fight.. I'm not a pvper, but I can imagine it could be useful to help group them together, like a mini shardfall. As for non-pvp, and group fun, sure.. but I suppose there's not much use for single player mode, which I primarily am in. Tho it could be a cooking station.. maybe some sort of fletching station, or more, to make arrows on the go..?

I can't wait for them to implement this! They'll give everyone a basic campfire instance map which you can access when you have the proper campfire tools like tents, wood, and other stuff.

But if you want special campfire scenes, you can buy them in the add-on store! This is a goldmine, let me tell you!

Hi Myrcello nice video and nice idea. Maybe something like that would work kind of like an encounter does now, but I'm thinking I would like campsites to be non instanced or partially that is for those who don't have housing and they can get the sleep bonus etc, whatever gets implemented before we are done here;) I'd like to be able to be walking in a scene and see the signs of fatigue or hunger on my character or even illness and know I need to camp. Perhaps I don't want to leave the area, just take a quick nap or cook a bowl of soup to refresh so I set up camp because I can, and have the right ingredients to do that, like timber, tent, or bed roll. I want others to be able to see this not have it be instanced, they can make their own camp;) Maybe I have a wagon to lay down in.:) Even better.

    edited some typos ;)

Star Wars had the Camping Skill and boy did i like it - so depending on your skill of creating a camp it had different levels of how cool your camp good be.

It was all mostly only decorative - but still it was worth it.

Star Wars Galaxy had different trainable Survival Skills resulting in different levels of cool Camps.

    This was a basic one:

I think this was a high level camp:

And of course "Socialisation" was great in those camps.

The Camps did create save spots that did give you a bonus if you got attacked i think. Can´t remember it perfect anymore.

But for SotA the same - Depending on what Camp you Craft, or ( purchase) you get a higher protected camp intstance you can create on the overworld map.

    I like your idea. :)

Ah yes, setting up a campsite was a great feature of SWG. It was also a great feature of another little game from many years ago.
