Really like the direction the overworld map is taking. It is definitely becoming another layer of exploration, so really looking forward to all the bells and whistles to make it an even more immersive experience.

I would like to see lamposts along various parts of the roads. This only seems natural as there are lamposts along roads within scenes, so it would connect the experience visually.

Plus, it helps guides players along the roads, especially at night. That tiny torch doesn't really do much :)

And it also gives the feeling that roads would (and should) be safer, and you take a calculated risk to veer off into the dark forests.

Maybe a few close to the towns but as you travel away from towns then I do not think lamposts should exist. Also seeing the glow from the lamposts near the town should only become gradually visible as you come closer to them. In between a good old torch in the hand or light spell should suffice.

Also lights in the windows of houses should be visible in towns at night.

    World map is looking gorgeous.
Lampposts and lights in homes is a great idea.

Torches just aren't working that well on the overland map as far as I can tell.

I have to wait until its a bit later in the day though to see, when there's less glare on my laptop screen :>

Some wisps and fireflies would add to the atmosphere, too.

A small building once in a while (with a lantern) and a stable where important couriers can exchange to a fresh horse in order to deliver the message faster

We could extend this idea further once players have been trained to understand light=safety. So when you come upon a stretch of road where there are lamposts but they are turned off...you know something might be up. You can risk going forward on the road which might be a trap or not, or you veer off into the dark forest to bypass it but risk the random encounter.

So the lights can be turned on/off dynamically to create a living overworld. And perhaps you can see the lamposts being turned off one by one, approaching closer and closer to where you are. Combine that with maybe some mists or fog...I'm staying in town! :)
